Hardly !!! and which edition of TT because i have played since late first edition and don't remember them , Im not saying your wrong, I just have never played a game when anyone has ever used them ever. There was attack squigs and squig hounds in 3rd but they were terrible
Oh they're definitely in there, though to a lesser extent in the later editions than fantasy. One of the editions had an official bomb squig model, not sure which, but it predated SM by a long shot. Plus there are a host of special characters who have squig-related stuff (Zogwort turns his enemies into squigs - nice commander you got there!), there's squig stuff in dark heresy and rogue trader, white dwarf, the novels, etc etc. Attack squig! ARRGH I'd personally love to see some little ticker-type enemies, they're very orky and have some neat tactical uses. I don't see them taking anything away from combat, at least. Maybe a base minion or deployable grot-cage.
Oh, here we go, I knew I'd seen them somewhere. They're a tankbusta utility now. That would actually be a solid role in EC - a deployable for the tankbusta class, that seeks out armor but is destroyable if hit early. Just have it be an equipment slot like mines or meltas or whatever.
I think as an alternative to grenades! Throw a squig at da zoggin umies and it'll attach to them and/or nibble them for a few seconds or until they knock it off (possibly be rolling or jump packing) ...Just some thoughts.
Bomb Squigs are part of the Tankbustas unit in the TT version of the game. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing them as a form of C4 with the draw back of being a squig so it has to follow you...and not die.
Course der'll be squigs ya git! Where else iz we gunna get squig pies from, grotz? Well den dey wouldn't be squig pies would dey? Dey'd be grot pies. And dat don't sound as gud to me.
There's already a grenade for orks...they have stikkbombs thats litereally their parallel for what a grenade is. A bomb-squig is more in line with a one shot missile launcher or bit of C4.
The difference is that they're made for wrecking tanks, hence why they're part of the tankbusta unit.
From a design standpoint you wouldn't want players spamming bomb squigs, they require a lot of art assets and you'd want them to have an important impactful feel...for the amount of resources you'd put into implementing them. Thats why you'd need them to be...more than just a grenade. They'd need to be class or loadout defining portions of a kit. There's also the factor that that many models... if you're all carrying squigs or a lot of you are, that many more rendered models animating...probably would slow things down. From a design standpoint I could see them filling a niche classically filled by C4 in most fps games. Yes you would probably want to use it in an anti-armor/tank use case, but its obviously easy enough from a design perspective to send a bomb squig after a location/w/e.
