It literally has less bullets and less dps than a shoota. Unless it's been patched during the last month it's always been objectively inferior to the other factions basic guns.
*sigh* Again wiv you gits. Ya DO know dat da shoota has zog all fer accuracy, right? Dat we needs ta get real close ta be able ta hit ya wiv any reliability? Yer bolta is a beauty when you Space Marines botha ta use it right, but most of you gits just wanna run around doing spray-an'-pray. Ya treat it like it's a shoota, and it ain't. Dis is dat fing da dev-meks call "asymmetrical balancing". Try usin' yer bolta like a rifle and you'll do fine. I know, I tried it on da Chaos side once. Made 23 kills wiv a preset using nuffin' but a stock bolta and AIMING like you 'umies oughta do in da first place. Dat's yer biggest problem as Space Marines, you don't AIM and you don't hang back ta place yer shots. Ya act like Orks an' complain when it doesn't work da same fer you as it does fer us. Either you gitz need ta learn how ta use yer gunz properly, or you need to get a Storm Bolta and use dat instead. Or just join us Orks and use da spray-n-pray all ya want!
Lock this thread, please. It's just a terrible meme that survives because the LSM player-base is so goddamn mediocre. Was playing with a Chaos tactical loadout at rank 0 (no grenade, ammo/med, etc. only bolter) and was going 20+ kills versus loyalists simply because so few people put in the effort to play to the weapon's strengths, spraying at the chest and then raging when they don't go 20 - 0. The Bolter is fucking fantastic if you get headshots but that requires consistent aim and, as a result, a lot more skill for good performance. You can't Rambo with it but you can lock-down a doorway or an open area so much easier with a Bolter than any other weapon. It's pretty easy to get used to surprisingly, a hell of a lot easier to get back into than even Relic's Space Marine, even if EC bores the shit out of me after 5+ games with some of the most repetitive gameplay I've ever seen. tl;dr: please do god's work and lock this thread, this meme is old, dry and salty.
THANK YOU, dis 'ere thread wuz gettin' bluddy annoyin' wiv all da new gitz complainin' about a gun dey don't know how ta use. So thank ya fer bein' a smart git an' not one uv deez 'ere whiners.
This thread, almost as silly as Orkz saying their Rokkit isn't as good as a Melta, CSM saying AC isn't as good as a Grav, or Eldar saying DA is completely useless.
Just using the preset I was pulling in 20+ kills a match, it was great. I'm not saying they're perfect, but yes they're far from being useless. Also, Vet DA's are fucking scary e.e but yeah we're on the same page.
Boltguns stats are taken directly from garrison Downs a power armor space marine in 6 headshots and 12 bodyshots Artificer armor adds 1 headshot and 2 bodyshots Relic armor adds 2 headshots and 4 bodyshots So your typical experienced player in EC takes 7 headshots and 14 bodyshots. Thats not even half a standard clip. Add a drum magazine and now you have 60 rounds. It is true however that at 0-40 meters the storm bolter is universally better. Most fights will happen within 40 meters so the storm bolter is just better in general. Unless your planning on taking pot shots from 50+ meters. Even then the boltgun doesn't excel at that very much. Its a mid to short ranged gun IMO. The point is, the boltgun doesn't suck, but you are reliant on hitting the head with it. With its low penetration anyone with toughness bonuses are sure to survive substantially longer. Its all round weapon which means it doesnt kick ass at anything in particular. It performs average across the board. Please note the heavy bolter does the same damage as the bolter, it just has a higher fire rate. Meaning that it suffers the same issues as the bolter until the weapon really gets going. Headshots are the way to go with bolt weapons. Want more damage? Go storm bolter Want more penetration? Go Plasma gun Want Anti Vehicle support? Go Melta or Gravgun
Latency punishes the Bolter far more than the other guns. RPM. It's far easier, for me at least, to perform well with Ork and Eldar presets. People saying the basic Shuriken Catapult is bad confound me. Maybe they are trying to use it at 80 meters. Also I seem to noticed I'm affected by the inconsistent "crosshair contraction while aiming" failure bug more often as non-Eldar.
