Why All Chat is off? (The Science Behind Shaping Player Behavior in Online Games)

Personally I find that crossing "toxic" words to the enemy team at times has a more effective solution of wanting to kick their ass harder by the end game just so I can be the one on top. Yes, I'm one of those kinds of people that like to talk a load of bollocks on chat if something absolutely infuriates me and it's my way of cooling myself off during a game, but it's limited. I don't dig down to 4chan's level or rubbish like that. I keep it generally "I fucking hate you so eat this grenade" kind of banter.

Usually the enemy team responds in kind and more than once you can make a nice little friend after all has been said and done... and you've executed them. Again. And again. Good lord that E button never felt so good...

I do agree with disabling all chat but at the same time I don't. It should be down to the user's opinion, but considering I only paid for the basic game I won't actually be making much of an impact. This ain't my game, I'm merely a consumer and I paid to shoot things, which is what I am getting. We can save all our 20 seconds of toxic chat at the end game once we've said all our GG's to each other.

Teams don't talk to each other as it is and global chat just adds more distraction from playing the game. I'm glad it was removed.

True for that side of it, did you see any decent interactions that may justify its inclusion?

From time to time I did see great interactions cross faction so there is a bit of redemption in there, although I would love to see the volume of data the devs have that justified their decision that the cross faction was toxic as others have quoted Brent having said.

When I was new and on apothecary no one would tell me how to heal, so I asked in allchat and someone on Chaos gave me some help. The guy asked if I wanted more help and I made a chaos alt and he walked me through the game. Been playing on chaos since then.

That was one of the best things I enjoyed with all chat was that, being able to help out others with questions when I could was great.

It did seem exceptionally more special being able to help an enemy player as mutual respect for a good game.

Same with getting some questions answered in return. Definitely a cause in favor of cross faction chat

I think it's strange, because it doesn't really apply to Eternal Crusade.

LoL and EC are two vastly different games. Even at EC's worst, there was nowhere near as much cancer polluting the chatbox compared to your average match in LoL.
Even then, muting all-chat doesn't really feel like a solution to players being irresponsible with a chat function. It feels more like a brick wall the developers put up when they want to drown out the chaos around them and pretend it doesn't exist in the first place.
This shitty practice is probably why muting all-chat is becoming more of an 'industry standard'. Rather than solving the problem, it's being drowned out.

I hope not, because it's really not going to help them much. These threads are popping up a lot more now, because more people are starting to voice their dissatisfaction with the removal of the all-chat. Everything just feels so quiet and dead now, to the point where you may as well just be fighting AI bots.
You can't interact with them in any way, so what does it matter whether they're human or not?

And if they're doing this to appeal to a wider audience, then it needs to be said that Eternal Crusade isn't really suitable for a lot of people anyways. It's just barely at the T-rating. You've got explosions, violence, copious amounts of blood and executions. Not to mention the lore behind this game to begin with.

I'm not really the 'reading' type. So no. If I have counter-arguments, they've probably been said already by someone a lot smarter and more knowledgeable than me.

Well, when you consider that my entire schtick was yelling at the enemy team, it's been considerably shittier. Sure, I can still hop in and play the game, but yelling at teammates doesn't feel the same as yelling at the enemy. I used to be able to shout at them, and normally would get a silly response or another in return. It made for fun times, and I even added a few people as friends.

When you're able to have friendly banter with one another, it builds a tighter community. It makes you aware that you're fighting other players, and not just a bunch of bots.
Plus, answering an Ork 'WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!' with an angry 'FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOUU!' is good fun.
