I'd want Tau before Necrons, and Imperial Guard before Tau (and that is me speaking against my bias, such is my bias towards the tau is I'd take off my Warlock helmet forever and walk the path of the Greater Good, for good)
I would prefer they prepare for 8th Edition. Making this game canon with 8th edition I believe will greatly boost its appeal. We can have multiple planets with multiple NPC race. Those particularly suited as NPCs (e.g. Necrons) Arkhona could be rewritten out of existence into 8th Edition canon quality. If there's a canon story of a planet that can centralize multiple armies like Arkhona; take it!
Actually tbh at first, i was completely on board for loads of races and now i'm kind of the opposite. Before Orks, it was relatively quick matchmaking for me, now it's a snail pace. I imagine this won't be as bad at release, but only release more factions if we actually have the playercount. Otherwise don't even touch it with a 50 foot pole.
the usual arguements I see ... 1) necrons are robots and cant act like individuals .... wrong, 6th edition onwards have given the necrons back both sentience and personality 2) necrons lack variety and customisation potential .... wrong, no more then the eldar and we have them. 3) necrons would be OP or need to be all elites .... wrong, the eldar are all elites and not OP. 4) playerbase would be diluted .... wrong, until release we have no idea what numbers will play EC but it will definately be more then play it now because it will have been released to the general public 5) other factions would be better ... thats a personal opinion and your entitled to it, but even the devs (brent) said in the last twitch that necrons would be easier to implement then the tau
ok .... prove that having a 5th faction after launch would mean that any of the first 4 factions would suffer a loss of numbers enough to disrupt gameplay in such a way that they would be made non-viable, you cant use alpha gameplay numbers to support this arguement ... a single weekend in the stores will see the population of this game explode, just look at what the steam access did in terms of player numbers alone and thats during alpha when everythings broken and gameplay drives away almost as many as it retains
It has always happened; it will affect the game. I've observed many game developments. It's a logical conclusion that it will affect any game, and I believe it will affect W40KEC negatively. It basically asks for more population demand for the world map to show progress each time you look at it. Inhibiting other game features down like that is not acceptable. Personally, i predict the game will not sustain active players consistent for a minimum of 3 months (after release). That's quite bad projecting the future of less players.
until "open world" if that ever actually happens ... all a faction needs is 30-50 players online concurrently, thats enough to have 1-3 matches going at the same time
With the way the game is developing, I could def. see Necrons in there. Although, their gauss flayers would be considered incredibly overpowered. But who cares, they are 40k T-800s.
I would not personally play necron. But I can see why some people like their style and I'm sure fighting them would be interesting. However I can only wonder what could be done with them in terms of classes, weapon, weapon mods, visual customisation, etc. Basically, I have absolutely no idea how to give them a feel of progression during leveling. No idea what gear and loot to look forward to. etc. Contrast this with guards, which you can't have because 1 vs a marine or ork or eldar or necron would never make sense, however, there are so many types of lasguns (in terms of weapon base, mods, dark heresy already worked some interesting classes out in the context of an RPG). Guards have various level of armor, different helmets. Regiments with completly different looks. Shittons of amazing vehicles, (granted necrons have their fair share now too). Guards in term of customisation and advancements would have a lot of official content to work with. I think Tau are the most likely to happen post launch though because of the variety of troops and weapons and potentially weapon mods while still being able to compete (though not really in melee). The question remains would we be fighting fire warriors or battlesuits as base units... Necrons sure feel like tough enough guys to compete with the others, I'll give them that. It's their options for basic classes I find lacking (everything regarding customisation).
