You've read the title and seen the pole now feel free to discuss why the first or second game and relevant expansion was your favorite! Remember to keep it friendly and non Xenophobic! were all friends here! (or we can at least pretend to be) Also there wasn't enough room to include non expansion DoW 2 so if you vote for either of the expansions for DoW2 i'll just assume you liked Dow 2 itself as well.
Dark Crusade was the best in my opinion, it lets you be more free to choose where you battle while keeping a story and just feels more like a strategy game in the campaign which I feel most RTS games fail to do in their story modes.
I agree, Dark Crusade is easily the best expansion in my opinion. It had a good storyline for each faction, and was relatively believe able as opposed to the clusterbomb that was Soulstorm where factions that normally wouldn't fight each other (ie the Imperium) were given odd reasons to fight each other in order to make for some all out war. Theres a reason why the Kurava campaign is referenced as a tactical disaster in DoW 2
Winter Assualt because I LOVED the campaign. I enjoyed Dark Crusade when I played as Space Marines and do nothing but wait, reinforce my main base, then when I'm attacked I hold my ground and turn the main Space Marine area into A FUCKING FORTRESS!!! Then I continue waiting while all the races fight and constantly defend against MASSIVE attacks on my massive base. This may sound easy but even though I have the most uber base of all time it's always a close battle for the first 10 minutes and I find it really enjoyable.
Soulstorm because I can use the UA mod and get Titans, Noise Marines, Keeper of Secrets and Daemonettes =D
Winter Assault. Soulstorm and Dark Crusade were good ideas, but I found the territory capture boring and repetitive after awhile. I prefer focused levels with a true story, a-la Winter Assault. Plus, it was IG centric, and IG are bros. I was less of a fan of DoW2 because of the squad-based structure. I prefer massive battles, not tactical squad nonsense. This is WH40k after all.
Dark Crusade for me, i've spent hours on that game and still do playthrough's of the campaign from time to time and loved all the mod and maps people made for it.
Well Dawn of War I is far more that I can expected form a 40K battlefield that DW II... Soul Storm is the most complete with mod but the territory capture is not as well as it could be. Only the faction keep fight is interesting.
