I think their intent is a system which allows the game to be both profitable and enjoyable. Their solution is buy-to-play or free-to-play, and both with a cash shop. If their intent is to add content to the game for no cash charge, it would be done without a shop. On a side note, I personally hate cash shops whose products are sold for unique shop specific currency and whose unique currency is bought with cash; they try to confuse consumers instead of being clear. I think if Steam hadn't used cash then it wouldnt've been as successful.
I mentioned the cash shop because I already feel like their main finance plain (B2p with F2p class) is a good idea and I expect BE to pull it off. However while I don't necessarily mind supporting a game company past initial game purchase I cant help but feel a little skittish on the idea of MT cash shops. Such a thing can quickly become too pricey to even consider using as a permanent customization option. In this department I think it would be far more beneficial to stick with the tried and tested earn, sell and buy system. I don't know about any of you but I'd rather have to grind in a game then hustle in reality
I think that you could just have a paint scheme that you can use on all of your armor and weapons. That way, no matter what armor or weapon you use, you can always choose between what it looks like, and the different paint schemes you have.
@ RAAMUS I think greater revenue after launch should enable improved support and increased expansion, which I appreciate. Most gamers, myself included, empathize with you regarding microtransactions being detrimental when used carelessly; it's utilization will require elegance to overcome player aversions. Regarding microtransaction carelessness: Since the target audience is the Warhammer 40,000 community, I doubt the majority, let alone the entirety, of appearance customization options will be microtransaction exclusive; it should be integral. For myself, I don't mind spending extra for some cosmetic options, but definitely not every option.
I like the idea of having cosmetic options scheme setting saved which overlays any other character options.
I don't understand how some people consider XP boosts to be pay to win. I can understand the correlation made that associates purchasing something which hastens your progression, but it isn't buying power in EC. As David Ghozland, Miguel Caron and Steve Lumpkin have repeatedly said in god knows how many interviews, progression equals a greatly widened aspect of variety over gaining power. Pay to win in my mind is something like All Points Bulletin where you can buy weapons, vehicles and the like in the in-game shop which are simply better than what you can acquire through regular gameplay. The devs make the standard argument which says "You can acquire stuff in game too!", but the time taken to get a gun equal to one in the shop would be in the hundreds of hours.
I am ok with a XP boost IF they put it in later in the game to make sure that newcomers have a chance to get up to speed with the others and it is limited to a single character.
