Oh by the God-Emperor no! Space Marine has a much better combat system, and they should look to it instead of the horrible hybrid that is Neverwinter.
They dont differ that much really, the more target based fighting would work pretty well. They said that they already have dodging blocking and heavy attacking mechanics, this would help with that.
Pretty sure a target combat system will totally ruin the ranged combat, dunno why are you saying that it will work pretty well, besides, target combat system is tied to action bars and since day 1 the devs have advertised the exact opposite, most of us are here because we have no interest in themepark MMOs or outdated combat systems.
Neverwinter is horribly choppy in my experience. And not choppy as in melee-heavy, choppy as in there are very jarring stops between attacks (notice the distinct pauses after swings in that video) and a sharp division between attacking and moving. This is especially noticeable on ranged attacks, IIRC with a ranged character I was not allowed to attack and move at the same time. Additionally, Neverwinter isn't truly free-aim. It's still a tab-target system that is masked by an auto-targeting function bound to the center of your screen.
Neverwinter... never. Good think they've stated that Dark Souls is their main inspiration for melee. That game got it quite neatly (frustrating)
The fact that Dark Souls is being looked at gives me high hopes, as it's a game that I've been playing a lot lately, and the combat system is unforgiving, but immensely rewarding. Now, will we be able to get wrist mounted weapons, such as the wrist mounted storm bolters used by the Grey Knights, and Chapter Master Pedro Kantor, and if so, how would that impact the combat?
likely that we would have some special weapon designs like the one you mentioned advantage could be faster switch between melee and range combat disadvantage could be reload time
