In the latest Twitch Stream Brent mentioned that grenades would be a 'supply' item that you store away. I.e. you don't get grenades every time you spawn, but you acquire them through various methods (wasn't too clear on this). Personally I think it can work, since grenades are always just spammed in shooters. But they have to consider that there will be those who 'farm' grenades and will potentially exploit this. Also I'm not sure if grenades are something I want to farm for. IMO a good idea would be to make them kind of 'achievement based'. I.e. you kill 10 people, you get 1 grenade added to your grenade repository. What do you guys think?
If they went grenade per spawn then the req on your load out would have to be pretty high to counter the spam.
I am not sure about this whole situation with granades. I think it would be fair for everyone usually to have in loadout one default choice of equipping some sort of standard granade. And then with "level up"/experience spending/some combat achievement accomplished, player could get a perk of a possibility to equip 2 granades for a big cost of loadout-points. But I don't think it should be possible to equip more then 2 nades. And having more then 1 should be a drawback on other weapons/gear you can have with you. If developers will make it possible for us to see granades/explosives on enemies and let us detonate them with precise shooting, then I guess I'm fine with people having more then 1 or 2 of such suicidal things on them. Also I don't like that "helping trajectory" from Gears of War (had to say that...). Kinda like it how certain situations in SM MP take some skill of making some special granade - throws, that usually isn't expected by opponents.
They had mentioned Apothecaries need to resupply as well. Players needing to resupply medkits too. But... if you need to spend personal points to purchase single grenades, I'm fine with that too. Especially if they have all the types of 40k tabletop. If personal points are required to purchase grenades, it'd also keep people on the objectives more often. Just to earn points for that purpose. And to Slaytonthheslay, there is a quick toss the devs have previously shown, if you just wanna eyeball a grenade toss.
It is a interesting matter. We definitly don't want players to throw there grenades right after spawning, like in CoD. On the other Hand, we don't want to pay for them I think. It seems like the best Solution would be, to give free grenades when you spawn (1-2 like CoD), BUT at a heavy opportuity cost, so maybe you can take eiter grenades, OR a medpack, but not both. Plus high point costs. Maybe some other options instead of Grenades and medpacks. I think that would work pretty good.
Well, there should certainly be supply crates to restock on grenades in game. But having grenades as an exhaustible resource does pave the way for the importance of Supply depots and such therefore adding strategic value elsewhere. Having a stock you have to draw from can potentially add depth to the game if done right, I think the inventory idea can be a part of this.
I think it works if grenades are worth using in the first place. If they're pitiful in performance I don't think I could be bothered to go through hassle, but we don't know how they perform yet (Will they be like PlanetSide 2 style 'apples on the moon'?). If they're going to be critically affected by supply lines, would it not be worth having a toggle-able 'ballistic line' with grenades?
I nearly commented on the exact same thing when we first saw the 'helping trajectory" shown off a month or so ago. I really hope they remove this as I feel grenade throwing should be a 'skill' that's learnt over time through trial and error. Adding the "here,-this-is-the-exact-arc-your-grenade-will-take-to-land-at-exactly-this-point" arrow takes away any element of skill and/or misjudgement. Being able to stand and nicely adjust the arc so that you are guaranteed to throw your grenade through that window from x meters away.....no thanks (or should I say being killed by that guy who stands and nicely adjusts the arc so that he is guaranteed to throw his grenade through that window from x meters away.....no thanks). Truly loving all what I see from the devs so far but I did facepalm when I saw this first demonstrated.
I love the idea of having a limited supply of special ammo, grenades, medkits and having to choose between them or to play more powerful classes like elite/heroes.
