Dark Eldar. They are cool , they piss on eldar and they have all the prerequisites to form 4 good classes that can actually work. Like Kabalite , Wych , Haemonculus and Swooping Hawk or whatever they are called.

None of the others can do that IMO. Tau cant have 4 classes unless you mix kroot and the insectoids. IG cant have 4 classes unless you throw in assassins and Mechanicum. And for me , Necron make sense only as NPC enemies.

    Let me see:
    Ogryn
    Techpriest
    Priest
    Psyker
    Ratling
    Storm Trooper
Heavy Weapon Crewman (probably an "engineer" type class that builds player-operated Heavy Weapon turrets)
    Basic Infantry
    Veteran
    Weapon Specialist
    Medic
    Vox Operator
    Commissar
    Platoon Commander
    Company Commander
    Master of Ordinance
    Vehicle Crewman
    Conscript
    Penal Legionnaire
    Assassin

Nope, IG doesn't have any unit diversity at all.

If anything, the real challenge with IG will be *consolidating* all the roles they have into a handful of classes. Weapon Specialist, conscript, veteran, vox operator, and Sergeant can probably be consolidated into basic infantry, the various commanders could probably become a single "Officer" class.

Medic would be treated the same way the rest of the medic-style units are treated (ie Apothecary).

Heavy Weapon Crewman is obviously a straight-up equivalent to other heavy weapon classes. It'd probably be an "engineer" style class that builds and mans turrets, though it could be consolidated with basic infantry and the actual building of said turrets handed off to Techpriests.

Veteran, Storm Trooper, and Legionnaire can either join "basic infantry", or be "elite infantry", where basic infantry are F2P and elites are paid. Vehicle crewman could be eliminated, and often is in FPS games, but I'd like to see a dedicated driver class.

For Assassin and Ratling, one would probably be dropped while the other becomes the "sniper". Unless we do an Ork style partial F2P, then Ratling would be the free sniper and Assassin is premium.

Ogryn is obviously an assault class minus jetpacks. Which kind of gimps them, but that's why they have a giant stack of Wounds on tabletop.

Techpriests are obviously a vehicle support class, and equivalent to Techmarines. Not big surprise. May take on other Engineer-style roles such as constructing defensive structures.

Psyker is exactly what it says on the tin.

We'll probably have to drop Priests despite how hilariously entertaining they are. But if they get in, they'd be a melee support class. They chop stuff up with their giant two-handed chainsword, and make everyone around them stronger in melee.

I probably missed something, but as you can see IG has more than enough unit variety to fill four classes. In fact we've got enough to field four F2P classes and four premium classes, while still having to consolidate some roles into a single class. Not to mention we probably have the largest motorpool in all of 40k.

IG would be able to make an unbelievable contribution to the game's content. Really, the hard parts will be cramming as much as possible in and deciding what to inevitably leave out.

Which is probably why IG's not in at launch. Developing that much content in just two years would take some sort of tactical genius.

The ones that i left on the quote are the ones that i strongly believe could never be a real class.
Veteran , Comissar and the two commanders are rank , not class. Would you like to see a group of ten commisars running around? Its like saying "chaos lord" as class. I understand that on TT they have features that distinguish them but that would not apply on an MMO. Medic , i dunno , its not wow so what would a medic do? Run around bandaging folks? I just cant see that , if u can think of something that would work and is not ridiculous , say so. Vox Operator? Seriously? What will he do , type on bold letters? Vehicle Crewman? So the rest of us will need a license to drive? Priest , Conscript , Penal Legionnaire and Storm Trooper would all pretty much do exactly the same. Same goes for rattling and Spec Weapon user.

The point is not just to have classes mate , the point is to have 4 distinguisable classes with clear roles that can benefit the fanction , work together with others and be somehow unique , not just skins of classes from other fanctions.

I think for sake of class variations for the game, they would have to break down the number of roles.

They may just break everyone down into the typical table top listing of: HQ, TROOPS, FAST ATTACK, ELITE, and HEAVY SUPPORT.

thinking on it, the Imperial Guard would have a lot of consideration for organizing their troop types.

Like I said, many of these roles could easily be consolidated into a single class, others not so easily. And of course, IG *will* need rank structure badly, especially with their dependence on Orders, and that means rank-restricted classes. But we have more than enough distinct battlefield roles to fill more than four classes no matter how you slice it.

I don't even know why you're dismissing the heavy-weapons guy offhand. What, you don't think we'll need lascannons? Or are you trying to say we should go with the idea where Techpriests build the heavy weapon, and ordinary Guardsmen crew them?

I can assure you though, a Priest doesn't play anything like a Storm Trooper. If anything the Priest probably won't even be in the game (as I mentioned) as "melee support" is a role that would be rather awkward in a shooter.

I've also already covered the Medic: SMs have the Apothecary, Orks have the Mad Dok, Eldar and Chaos probably have an equivalent. They will likely act just like a Medic in Battlefield or Planetside 2: AoE heal, targeted revive, with emphasis mainly on reviving. I think you can see why this might be a rather important role for Guardsmen.

Just because none of us have jetpacks, doesn't mean we all fill the same role. Some of our units even have a 4+ armor save!

If I had to pick *just* four while preserving as much diversity as possible though, it would go like this (ignoring vehicles for now):
    Ogryns (assault class)
    Techpriest (engineer/defensive class)
    Psyker (duh)
Guardsmen (everyone else, with branching options and rank structure)
  6. I second that! I think it would be very interesting to see them in the game.

    ehem, pleasure cults, cough cough.

I 've voted Tau Empire cause they are my favourite army above all, though I'm quite worried about the classes.

I'm against an IG implementation cause it means they could be facing the Space Marines, which is quite weird, whereas an Inquisition faction would be way more fluffwise as would allow the following as classes :

    - elite : grey knight
    - heavy support : IG with assault canon
    - jumper : seraphim (Sister of Battle)
    - support/healer : inquisitor psycker
    - regular : imperial guard
    - sniper : assassin of the vindicare temple
  8. I would vote Necrons.

Just so I got some robots to shoot and taunt at in a mechanical voice, heh.
  9. Isyder Isyder Cipher

Voted Tau just on fighting battle suits = fun

  10. The same thing can be done to the Nids and make them the 5th race. It would be half the work because there already a NPC race.
