I found this on the russian site.
    http://www.eternalcrusade.ru/

it talks about tyranids and the alpha preview . I had it translated into english. this is what be said about tyranids .

Zerg - represent a reasonable nasekomoobraznyh creatures with collective intelligence. Zerg extremely prolific, grow rapidly and tend to absorb as much as possible races encountered on their way. Oh-oh-oh, whoa. I wanted to say - Tyranids - biological race, aimed at constant absorption of biomass. In the terminology of the Imperium earned its name by the fact that the first meeting with them took place in the system of Tiran. Tyranids are a single living organism. They have no technology, no technique, all the Tyranids, all of their devices, even their spaceships are living beings. All Tyranids are subject to huge Overmind collective consciousness hive fleet. This news portal www.eternalcrusade.rucontinue to acquaint you with those who will not divide players in chaos, orcs, Eldar or Space Marines. For them, we are all, you know - biomass. So that at the moment the developers say:

    • Tyranids will be controlled by artificial intelligence (AI).
    • Tyranids will always try to eat some of your territories. Players in the military council should follow this aspect of the game.
    • Tyranids will stay away from the major battles.
    • Tyranids are designed to maintain balance in the game. The strongest faction will attract much more Tyranids and will need to
    • defend its borders much more intense (this will allow other races to gather strength and strike).
    • Tyranids are not the only NPC at the start.
    • Available units: Carnifex.

In space, there is a much greater danger than can imagine Adeptus Terra. Millions of people inhabited planets - nothing compared with the rest of habitable space. Scouts Administratum open hundreds of inhabited planets annually, new forms of life, even the new civilization. If aliens are a danger to the Imperium - they are destroyed. During the existence of the Imperium conducted many wars with alien races. Basically wins Imperium, but in some cases the troops are only able to stop the advance of the enemy. Even now, the planet Saarduina remain dark and unexplored, while the Imperial Army to guard the gates of invasion Varl C'tan. But such land space only point on the map of the Imperium. Two hundred and fifty years ago the Imperial scouts found in the eastern part of the galaxy traces of a new race - the whole worlds, devoid of any signs of life, while they were occupied by different forms of life and vegetation - not now remained even bacteria. Scouts report was sutured to the other, but nothing had been done to determine the cause so incomprehensible phenomenon - "the universe is huge, who knows what she's keeping secrets." Opened new worlds deserted, but scouts have not moved a step in uncovering the mystery. The Council of the Inquisition was a man, interested phenomenon - Inquisitor Kriptman hero Maharianskoy Heresy, undertook a long journey to East Limit. Before he reached the ultimate goal, the first contact - was destroyed planet Tiran, a member of the Imperium. Tyrant was not important or a major center, no more than a small research office, fortified with several hundred members of the Adeptus Mechanicus and scouts, who underwent the first Tyranid attack. Fasting certainly been destroyed, but he managed to send a warning about a new threat. Imperium came up to only one short message astropath, mental image hordes of monsters in the sky. On behalf of the planet and the monster got its name - Tyranids.

Im really interested in seeing juts how menacing they will make the Tyranids actually be, and how good they will design encounters with them.
For instance slow moving things like Carnies should always be acompanied by Hormagaunts so people wont be able to kite the Carni.

i just want to be able to play 'nids one of these days.

saying Zergs meaning tyranids is heresy. Blizzard copied 40k, and blizzard space marines have no EMPRAH.

So true Zerg vs tyrannids tyrannids win everyday of the millennium ( I'm totally not biased to nids as you can see from my profile picture )
someone who actually agrees with me ( angelic choir going off in background ) it would be amazing to play as nids in another game than DoW and in TT they got nerfed to the warp
    Golokopitenko likes this.

I still haven't managed to find an actual source for this myth, and a lot of the stuff people like about the Warhammer 40k universe really isn't unique to Warhammer 40k. Starcraft always struck me as taking inspiration from Alien and Starship Troopers, which both have things that feel super similar to the stuff you see in Warhammer 40k.

Some of the early Protoss art does look fairly Eldar-y, but even in SC1 they look and play nothing like the Eldar. It should also be noted that the Zerg didn't look like Tyranids until after the Zerg were around for a while (seriously, check out some of those 2nd edition Tyranid models). Also, you know what was new and original about Warhammer 40k power armor? Jack. Power armor's been a staple in sci-fi for ages, even before 40k. The only interesting part of any of the human tech in 40k is A. scale (pertaining to ships, mostly) and B. the fact that most of the understanding behind it has been lost. If you took that away then 40k humans would be pretty stock standard.

It is true that original Warcraft borrows heavily from the fantasy Warhammer universe. Blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer fantasy game, but they wanted more control over their story/universe than GW was willing to give, so they started their own IP.

    *stomps away in a huff*

It's more along the lines of what came first and how heavily blizzard products were influenced by warhammer. Problem here being that most people know of zerg and not of tyranids and when seeing tyranids for the first time scream about originality fanatically. What Dreadwing quotes from the russian site is written in that particular manner of thinking.
Alien , Predator and Starship troopers influenced both of that there is no doubt but they did influence warhammer first.

    Ontopic

Most things about tyranids and how they will work is still being worked on. Sure the carniflex is iconical but hardly confirmed , other than that short story we got. Do not believe everything you read.

Its not a myth, Starcraft is heavily inspired by WH40k (like most science fiction games are). The thing and significance about WH40k (and, Warhammer, for that matter) is, while not all of the its ideas are original and it is inspired by earlier books and movies (Starship Troopers, Alien, Terminator ...), it was the first to bring all these concepts together into a single unified creation, which was a major step for modern science fiction and really coined what we know as Sci-Fi today, atleast in games - all universes that came afterwards, like Halo and Mass Effect and ofc Starcraft owe WH40k alot in terms of world building and are obviously inspired by how its world is set up. The things you describe as beeing standard or regular concepts for a Sci-Fi universe did not exist in this way before WH40k did them.

This can not only be traced back to how WH40k was the first to do this in the way we know it today, but some of the developers of these games probably where WH40k players prior to game development (or during) and as such had an affection for how WH40k did things.

Tyranids are heavily inspired by the bugs from Starship Troopers in terms of organization, and the design was inspired by the Alien. Now guess what the Zerg are that came years later. Exactly the same thing. They are basically identical in every way. Either thats the biggest coincidence of the century or one was inspired by the other.
