Game's already gained a bad reputation outside these forums, if they went that route it would kill what little chances for redemption it might get in the future.
You're seriously comparing a game that hasn't changed anything in 16 years and somehow is still one of the most populated shooters around to EC, which is still missing the bulk of its features that have (so far) survived the culling? EC even had some drama surrounding the real money store selling concept art before we had proper gameplay footage, can't imagine how that would go if bE added keys to the game.
