They'll translate the setting, maybe. If they build the game engine to in any way resemble 8th edition, it will never play like Age of Sigmar.
Its just total war but with magic and warhammer units I don't believe they are using actual warhammer rules as a base.
Total War and WFB already shared a lot of features (units move as blocks, grand battle tactics, charges into flanks, morale tests). Age of Sigmar not so much.
exactly, Total War Warhammer will pretty much be a real time version of the 8th edition rules of Warhammer Fantasy, right down to the rules regarding magic. Depending on the location of the map in the game world, it will be effected by the winds of magic differently. In some locations the winds are weak, thus limiting the spellpower of wizards in those areas, while in other locations they are very strong. And once that is established, the overall effects are randomly generated at the start of each match along with the choice of spell pools, like in the table top game. Along side all that there is always the risks involved in casting magic as well as the limited number of spells you can cast based on the winds in that location. the rules for Orc Shaman are again, different, their power is generated from Waaagh!!! Magic, so the more greenskins in proximity to the Shaman all fighting and bashing, the stronger the effect of their spells. Warhammer is one of those few fantasy universes where it is neither Low or High Fantasy, it's a mix of both, like MiddleEarth and Narnia, it's plan ol' fantasy. Low fantasy battles and lifestyles of various peoples and races in a High Fantasy world.

It's already better than Warhammer: Mark of Chaos with just the demo gameplay alone. And I mean the gameplay, not the graphics, because it would be unfair to compare graphics of a modern game to that of a 9 year old game. If it would be better than Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, that's the big question. If so, then it will be awesome.
