I like they way they're doing it. I would always prefer transparency to glossy marketing.
It's just become so endemic, this "don't dare show unfinished products" attitude. Doesn't change the fact that the production process IS messy and even the best and most polished games start ugly.

And since this game is fully funded anyway, who cares what people think? Haters gonna hate. Let 'em come crawling back when the game releases.

PS: Can't wait for the stream!!! Gonna be great!

To OP, no...I understand, but no...

In the long run, it doesn't matter if people like or not the early alpha footage they see now...
If the devs do their job the way they are saying they will, and the way we hope they will, when late beta videos start rolling out, all those critics will just shout "shiny!" and throw money to the screen.

On the other hand, showing these videos off, leads to constructive conversations and brainstorming by the wannabe customers...and I'd prefer the possibility of 1 constructive post on youtube than 100 fanboy posts anywhere else. And I'm not saying that there's fanboysm here, just that the more eyes on the videos, the better the quality of the criticism, good or bad criticism.

When going against the tide to change anything will always be difficult especially to vanguards who will always take the most blows for being the first to dare to go against the flow.

Its totally off-topic,but when is the stream anyways?

Their twitch.tv channel has a few short clips of them preparing the streaming setup. They did that yesterday. And in one of the clips they said they are going to announce and make a full stream sometime this week.

i'survived a tour around comments on the internet reddit/4chan/various newsite.
and i think that all considered it's all about the site/place:
you know there is place on the internet where all game are considered horrible and nobody like game....
and other place where "bu but destiny alpha look better.."

there is still a lot of positive comment about the game. and a lot of retweet and upvotes (so people like and show the video to other etc etc)

Consider that no game capture the 100% of the players audience so the negative comment are alwais more than the positive when the game is preseted to a open plateau of people.

instead when is showed to a targed audience (mmo, war 40k fan and pc gamer) there is more positive comment and more comment about "it's a pre-alpha it's not a fake e3 video" "the dev promise to show all the development phase".

A lot of people like the idea of "planetside 2 +space marine" and when they see the video tell "it's really what they told us space marine with more people but where is the more people?"

So don't worry if some vegetarian comment "it's disgusting" when they see a steak.

I think that a lot of negative comment about the graphic etc etc will disappear when the game is more developed and the dev can show us the "before" and "after": so te people will understand "aa so was a real pre-alpha"

On one hand the game is funded, on the other the costs of running servers is generally not included in "funding the game" part. I like what they're doing, though.

The way Behaviour is handling release of information is fine. If the masses are really that ignorant or don't wish to do their homework past a glance at a screen...then that should not be what sways you.

These pre early alpha footage videos let us see what is going on and what is being added. It lets the community be involved and help with the game development instead of being left in the dark so that we can choke on whatever a developer thinks is best for us which usually ends up with a bad game.

As EC develops more videos will come out and those same masses will begin seeing the method that is being taken. Articles will appear about how open and transparent things have been...and they will begin to ask "why aren't more games like this?" Every step will see more and more things added to EC that will make it look better, sound better, and play better.

It matters not that some uninformed now can't grasp the concept because they've already made a decision about it.

Since reading the comments on the latest IGN pre-alpha video, I have to say I am starting to think maybe it is a good idea to keep it back, or at the very least just post it on the EC YT channel, don't give it to the big outlets like IGN...
I know that those comments come from... well the slightly retarded members of humanity, but I fear a cascade of "EC? don't bother with that shit, I seen the game play, it looks like a garage made rip off of Space Marine" when these ignorants tell their friends...

I mean this was posed on the latest vid:
It is coming out in like 2 years... and alpha should look better then pre-alpha...
The mind boggles at the stupidity...
I worry that this publicity is bad publicity... Even if it is coming from the ignorant.

Agreed. No doubting that it's ignorance, but the bad publicity is still bad publicity. I don't see why you'd send pre-alpha to IGN whose readers are, frankly, notoriously pretty dense at the best of times.

Better to keep the footage on this forum, imo, where the people here are aware (mostly) of the situation.
