http://www.twitch.tv/silent0siris/b/496889740 In this video at around 13:55 it's stated that the biggest thing they're focusing on as far as identifying enemies goes is their silhouette. Reading through a book today in class, I spied a couple of lines from David Annadale's The Carrion Anthem, page 109, first paragraph as it's presented in the Treacheries of the Space Marines anthology. They read as such: "Their armour had long since ceased to be simple ceramite. It was darkness that was iron, and iron that was disease. They assembled into rows and then stood motionless, weapons at the ready. Only they weren't entirely still. Their outlines writhed." I think that this could be a defining feature of the Chaos outlines as a way to really differentiate between us and the Space Marines. Spikes and trophy racks are well and good, and even go a long way to doing the job up close. But from a distance and possibly under the cover of night this could be the thing that stops friendly fire incidents.
I'm not suggesting we give them so many mutations that their outline is funky. I'm saying find a way to make the outline of them, make their silhouette, seem like an actual living thing. Make it writhe and move the way it was described in the books.
It's not the armor itself, it's a trait of chaos leaking into the physical world. Shadows distort, ghost noise, a smell of ozone, etc.
and again this cannot aply to all the CSM especially with IW and NL...it could work for WB since they are the enlighted ones and maybe to BL but not to everyone.
It most certainly can. Regardless of their allegiances all of the traitor legions take refuge within the Great Eye. It's why the Night Lords have entire warbands dedicated to Chaos. And the Iron Warriors are just as susceptible to warp-fuckery as anyone else. You can't cut off your outline and slap a bionic on it.
right so explain me please how a NL marine will look like or an IW....and what will be the difference between them (who just use chaos,or at least thats what they think)and BL or WB who just cant get enough chaos ...
It's just a small measure to differentiate between loyalists and traitor marines. Up close they'll still look like their legion and have all the identifiers therein. But everything that's ever been inside of the Eye of Terror has been warped to some degree, this is unarguable, so they are all subject to having this little bit of warp hanging around. I'm saying that on a mechanical level it will help differentiate friend from foe. We don't need to tell whether friend or foe is a Night Lord or a Word Bearer from a distance, just that it is a friend or foe.
but its really easy to tell friend from foe even at distances (the only exception might be WBand BA ..)
