The Miguel Caron Heresy (audio)

  1. [This was created as a tongue-in-cheek "thanks" to the developers from the Chaos community after last week's Ask Me Anything sessions on Twitch - enjoy!]

If you watched the AMA, you may have noticed some simmering tension threatening the united brotherhood that is the Behaviour development team when Miguel Caron, Studio Head and true champion of the Crusade, came face to face with a player called Locutus_praisethelumpkin in the chat channel.

Ignoring the push for transparent truth in order to become revered by the masses as a God? Retiring to work on some project (allegedly something to do with the Eldar) while the Crusade continues without him?

This story seems eerily familiar...it could all too easily end in a terrible battle, leaving Steven Lumpkin encased in a golden wheelchair and the community entering a ten thousand year feud from which it would never recover.

Fortunately, Miguel Caron hasn't written any newsletters appealing to space marines willing to turn traitor and join him in such a vicious civil war, so its not as if he'd have his own legion waiting in the wings - ready to strike when people least expected it.

    Oh...wait a minute...
  2. Count me in as an auxiliary to whatever organization Vanessa's head of. Sorry Miguel.
  3. Better hope she chooses the right side, Corvus. If not...

"Death to the lapdogs of the False Lumpkin!"

    Only in a 40k forum.

I do not understand your avatar.
  8. Assuming you're familiar with the Horus Heresy, and why the traitor legions turned on the Emperor, if you listen to the first AMA session at the following points:

0:40 - 1:07 (Miguel on the importance of transparency)

    59:08 - 59:52 (mic knocking...and the heresy begins)

And bear in mind that before the YouTube recording started, Miguel had referred to people with names like "Steven Lumpkin is a God" in chat, it may hopefully be making more sense. ;)

I know about the Horus Heresy and I saw the full video. I even made a bullet-point list that sums up everything they said there.
I still do not get what this is about though.

If it is relevant in any way, they said the game will be based in WH40k and not the Horus Heresy.
  10. Okay. Consider the similarities below...

Miguel has been pushing strongly for clarity and truthfulness with the fans, and during the AMA was teasing Steven about the fan base worshipping him by adding things like "praise the Lumpkin" to their names in twitch and his spending time posting on the forums rather than development work. Steven is also working on some bits and pieces to do with the Eldar newsletter for December and has had fans working on art for that, and one even created his forum avatar. The banter provoked some comments of "ahh, he's jealous" from other developers.

Horus was a champion of bringing the Imperial Truth to humanity, and saw visions of the Emperor worshipped as a God and venerated in art. The Emperor withdrew from the Great Crusade to focus on a secret project connected with the Eldar webway and was loved more by the masses, prompting jealousy from Horus.

Horus' reaction was to turn the Sons of Horus on the Emperor, accusing him of betraying the Great Crusade. "Let the Galaxy burn", "pretender", and "False Emperor" were all phrases used by the traitor marines at the time.

The recording here was all about drawing connections between the two, and predicting that the next step we'd see would be a Sons of Caron legion screaming "Death to the False Lumpkin".

I promise its not a misunderstanding about the game being set in the Heresy Era. ;)
