Thats what I thought too. The animation does look fast as well. Only thing I maybe would have liked more was a head first dive over the cover with a roll at the end. But that would have ended you to far away from the cover you jumped over.
The flip is epic. btw: (side dlips onto horse, skate boards, and does a Flintstones slide off an elephant) (flip at 3:50) (flip at 1:10) (flip at 2:30) (flip at 1:24) (2:40 - 4:19) *Flips onto horse, Skates boards down the stairs, Flinstone slide down an elephant, WWE Frankensteiner, also flips off an orc, another front flip, then Warp spider does front flip. *Eldar and elves in general actually flip a lot, to show off their combat prowess and disrespect their foes. THe LoRT movies are full of cartoon moments. *This Farseer thinkss this Astartes could be a tiny bit jelly ? (<=== joking / sarcasm btw)
This, Howling banshees are literally described as "acrobatic" in GW codices. It IS one of their perks. I know it is ridiculous in a realistic and believable context, but to me warhammer 40k has never been such. GW threw that concept aside the moment they introduced space elves and giant humans in their universe. I understand that some ppl doesnt like that and they have good reasons but the fluff has been portraying some Eldar warrior (howling banshees for sure) gracefully and acrobaticly kicking other races' asses for years now.
You guys do realize though, that flipping over like that would actually just slow you down. Instead of just leaping over the obstacle, you instead would kill your momentum by doing a flip like that. Unless you "jumped" onto it, then did a leaping flip, throwing you further than in the animation. Meanwhile a normal human in the 21st century can leap over obstacles in a hurdle race without losing their momentum. As for the flips in the videos, none of those looked out of place, except maybe the cinematic trailer. They all fit with what was going on in the scene, even the sync kills. Now just seeing the flip once isn't so bad, until every character who the animation applies to is doing it over every bit of cover. The flip is meant to convey a sense of agility and speed, I get that, but it only works if you're already running toward cover. What if you're just sitting in cover and you decide to go over it, you're gonna do a random flip instead of just leaping over it. Not to mention the animation itself doesn't look right. It starts out relatively fine until the end where it seems to speed up.
I agree that the flip works for banshees. but like as catface said it'll look silly if done standing in front of cover, or worse if a group of banshees are trying for the same window. It is flamboyant but inefficient. And those Legolas "moments" after fellowship were taking things a step too far imo.
I wish they dove/vaulted/flipped over the ledge, I'm sure they could land perfectly right behind the cover, even as a double flip. The flip broken by the handstand just seems so unnecessary and slow - making the most vulnerable race the most vulnerable around the points in the map that are designed to protect them. If the flip had been animated to not touch the cover and instead soar just over it into a low crouch just under it, I'd love it. Save the handstand for an execution or an alpha strike (like captain a falcon jump grab).
I agree the flip is daft. I know, 'rule of cool' and all that, but c'mon it basically presents the absolute maximum area for people to shoot while you are crossing cover. A sideflip or a monkey vault would be far better, both better looking as well as better tactically.
See if "rule of cool" applied to this, I'd say that the current flip isn't cool enough to apply. A parkour flip/move is levels higher on the rule of cool scale.
