I'd be up for voice but my availability comes and goes in bursts. Work and gf take priority as I would like to retain both of them as long as possible ;) But I can try to make reasonably often and happy to help with some of the background maintenance tasks as an apology :D
  2. Never played The Black Crusade, but I would love to partake in this for the experience and for the sole love of all types of PnP, even as a heretical psychopath!

Ok, I think I'll give G.M.ing a go, I'll be playing with a Single player, This player must be comfortable with the following:
    • Lots of House Rules.
    • A Single Player.
    • Human Characters Only.
    • May take Khorne, but only if you can make him/her not just a walking weapon.
    • Must have a Background Story (The more exotic the better).
    • The character must have goals (Knowledge, Power, etc.).
    • Play by Post
Also I'll note this will be my first time as a G.M.

    Note:
People who do not have adequate time to participate should consider doing a PbP. It's far more flexible and does not require you to be on at specific times. It also eliminates the issue of you worrying about being a good GM or not, as you can think and plan out your posts, instead of having to do it all on your toes (like with voice). This is my first experience DMing with no prior experience and the group is doing perfectly fine.

Also keep in mind they are a bit slower if you do PbP. Vocal communication will always be quicker than typing, but as a lot of people are doing this as a first time, taking it slow is a good idea.

In fact, here's some good tips for DMing:
    • Make sure to have a solid story written out before hand. You don't have to have it written up physically, but keep a general idea of what you want to do with your group beforehand.
    • Make your players feel like badasses, but don't let them roll over everything.
    • Adapt. If your players characters are really powerful, introduce more powerful or numerous opponents. Don't just throw in a -10 to all their tests because of something obscure.
    • Be prepared. PnP Campaigns are notorious for having been derailed by a players action. Good examples of this are in one session I've seen: A player broke an orb that was pretty important to the story line. He simply dropped it on purpose and walked out. The action fit his characters, but the story was fubar. Make sure to have backup plans in case players either fail, or throw a wrench in your carefully planned out story.
    • These Campaigns are very much non-linear. While players are supposed to plan out goals they are to obtain during their campaign, allow them to explore every inch of whatever world/city/station you are in.
    • At the same time, don't baby your players. If they're trying to see something with the unaided eye, they can and should fail.
    • Guide, don't force.
And an important tip (albeit cheesiest) is to have fun. If your character gets mortally injured, maimed, or worse - dies, laugh about it. Don't get upset or blame the DM. Shit happens. Make a new character, in a new scenario, in a new situation.

Characters can and will die, or worse. If a character is in a situation where he may die, such as losing his footing because of a bad movement test, he may survive the fall due to the grace of the Gods, but have broken and mangled limbs. In other situations, such as being completely surrounded by ravenous mutants, you can't simply warp out of harms way. The character will die. But if they wish to continue playing that character, then work together to come up with an idea on how to add him back into the game. Have him appear later down the road in prison with no recollection of how he got there or with no memory at all. Be creative with that shit.

And the biggest tip is: In-house rules. Make up shit as you go. Use the RPG books as guidelines, not rulesets. If someone wants to start off as a heavily mutated human, then look over whatever the books have on mutants and what best would fit the mutant role, then simply fill in the rest. Just because there's no class on it, doesn't mean someone shouldn't be allowed to play it.

    Hope this helps!

Oh and one last thing. If you are doing it play-by-post, try to have relatively good grammar and spelling. It's not fun to read an entire paragraph without capitalization, grammar, or even periods. But this isn't required so whatever. :p

Thanks for the tips Freke. I've got a story in mind for my Campaign, just waiting on a player to step forward. (Also, I might add that I have no idea how its going to go with just one player)

That depends on who your asking, and who's game your trying to get into.

If it where my game then there would be a few problems, he's a Living Weapon (as in not good at anything other than fighting), I would roll on the Mutation/Gifts tables (Unless you give me a Background story that has it written in), I would also make the WP tests to see if you can roll gifts (again unless the Background story gives any gifts), and I use point allocation (150p because of a single player). and I use a modified corruption track.

If it's not, then ignore the last sentence :)

I'm going to see if we can't get a Mod to move these topics and their sub-topics to the Roleplay subsection.

    *EDIT*
Also, I'm currently toying with the idea of maybe starting a second Black Crusade session. This will:
    1. Have to be small. Either one or two players.
    2. Must be human. If you wish to play as a traitor marine, you must achieve the transformation through in-game means, as Chaos' process is relatively unchanged from the loyalist one.
    3. Must be down with play-by-post. I need a little more experience with DMing before I tackle the voice-driven campaigns. :p
These will most likely happen whenever we are all/both online. However if that proves to be not viable, then we'll set aside a day in the week we can all agree on.

So either message Jesse or myself for a group!
