Dawn of War: currently the highest critically and universally acclaimed of the video game franchises spawned from Warhammer 40000 universe. This RTS classic from 2004 was responsible for not only bringing in a new wave of Warhammer 40k fans (I was part of said 'wave'), but also revolutionizing the gaming genre it was a part of. From what I can tell, many of you on this forum have played this series of games, and it is now I ask you which one you believe to be the 'best'. Your favourite, if you will. Personally, i'd have to go with Dark Crusade. I liked each of the 7 races that were put into the game, the new Campaign was fresh, unique and interesting (despite an arguably 'weaker' story), and it felt like an all-out sequel due to it's 'expand-alone' nature, something that Winter Assault missed out on. The two that come in at very close 2nd and 3rd places for me are Retribution and Winter Assault. Retribution felt like the 'Dark Crusade' of DoW II due to it's variety and refined features. As for Winter Assault, I can have an entire army of Kasrkin or Terminators. I have a guilty pleasure for using mildly-imbalanced units like that against Computer players...also, General Sturnn. That guy is awesome. So, what's your favourite Dawn of War game? Or your top 3? Post on this thread what you think (though try not to argue about Soulstorm, please.)
Thats a though one. I like them all but hmmm, ill have to go with soulstorm i had lots of fun with it, also i like DC, currently replaying it, and dawn of war 2 was fun actually.
DC for sure. It is true of course DoW2 had improved sound, graphics, animation, quality but the "Company of Hereos" style turned me right off.
I'd say a tie between Dark Crusade and Chaos Rising. Dark Crusade was the veritable high point in the DoW series. While Chaos Rising was arguably one of the best game expansions in the history of game expansions.
Dawn of War 2 and its subsquent expansions had the better storytelling/singleplayer experience. It was simply better in most regards, soundfiles, music. Wargear and RPG aspects for costumization added another layer of engagement as well. Whilst the multiplayer was less ''epic'' in scale, I personally found the more tactical approach and smaller skirmishes to be immersive and fun as well.
I'm voting DoW2 Retribution. I love the multiplayer part of DoW2 which I'm playing to this day, and they allowed me to play Eldar in campaign. I would vote Soulstorm after that just for Dark Eldar, but the campaign wasn't really good tbh.
I go with Soulstorm. Imo that was the most mature part of the first one wich i loved more than the second set of DoW games. Story-wise I enjoyed DoW2 and Chaos rising more, than Retribution. Retribution felt hastily put together and sluggish. I couldnt enjoy it as much as i did all the previous games, though it have more refined features.
