Please give a reasonable source proving that people dislike long-term achievements (and not in the sense of some flashy buttons). Otherwise, I will read this as "Why would you take the ONE aspect of MMO's that -I- are turned off by". Consider, if you will, World of Warcraft: There it has become easier and easier to aquire Epic and even Legendary items, so that every seven-year-old could call a fully equipped deathuberpwnwarrior his or hers at the end of the day as he feels that he is entitled to get everything in the game because of his suscription. But that behavior is perfectly silly on two grounds: Firstly, because the subscription allows you but does not guarantee you to get the stuff you want, and second, because there is nothing left for you to do once you actually have collected all you wanted. People need their carrot-on-a-stick, something they can aspire to. And if our carrot should be Terminator Armor, then so be it. Because mere ornaments wouldn't be attractive enough to get players to put actual effort into organizing their strike force or the whole campaign. And again, the point of giving Terminator armor to your Strike Force commander is essentially the way of "gifting" him or her something neat for the effort of organizing your entire group. It would also ensure a healthy competition amongst players to replace the current holders of said titles because they want the Terminator armor, so ideally only the best and most skillfull tacticans will get to lead Strike Forces and the War council. Yes, this rewards serial players, no doubts. But the point is not that they spend more time in the game than your regular Joe (which they might do anyway), but rather, that they are more competent when it comes to tactics and group organization than your average Joe who will probably go "LOLZERGRUSH" into the enemy lines. "But", you might say, "I'm kinda a lone wolf, I don't like playing with other people and do want to do things alone". To this, I would simply reply: To bad. Consider playing a single-player game. The point of an MMO is teamplay. Sure, you can have fun on your own, and I think there will be wide plethora of weapons and stuff availiable for those who can't or do not want to be part of a larger group, but the best stuff is left to those who make sure that stuff actually gets done - namely those who plan and organize campaigns. As far as it regards me, I am unlikely to get my hands on Terminator (or rather, Mega-) armor. And I'm fine with that. I do not get the very best armor in the game, sure, but on the other hand, I won't have to wreck my brain trying to keep hordes of other people in line.
Also you'll probably note that there are TONS of suggestions on how to limit it but still make it accessible to players via something they can influence. Strike Force ranks are a good way to go about it.
I wouldn't mind the Planetside MAX system as long as A. You had to unlock it B. It had an hour cooldown
Great, Good to hear that there arent any stupid restrictions in. You seemed to think I wanted them to be available to everyone from the start and then being readily available to everyone whenever they needed them. SO far, you have fought against every suggestion I have made, even though they have been like the MAX system, only with more restrictions in the way that you have to actually unlock them first. And now you have written exactly what I have suggested many times. I am amazed EDIT: WAit, that info is pretty old. How come nobody had quoted it before, it would have answered so much. It is pretty much exactly what I suggested.
Agreed. Plus it would ensure that players don't spam the suit. One of the problems in Planet Side 1 was the spam of Max units and players with Heavy Weapons in their loadout. If they include a cool down timer for X amount of time and include resource requirements. This will force players too keep from BUM RUSHING anyone or anything and just get mowed down by constant weapons fire.
I really like this idea it's a great way to make terminators special but not too Rare or too common ( also their equivalents of course ) but one of my ( insert sarcasm here) "brilliant" ideas is that terminator armor is unlocked by finding pieces/plans for the armor cause pre-heresy their were tons post-heresy their scattered like the primarchs the second idea is just my musings
Here's thought, this game is going to be skill based and I assume that means spending resources in a skill tree as well as on equipment. What if equipping certain weapons, armours and using certain vehicles and equipment are all part of the skill tree. You want to spend your resources to be able to equip Terminator armour (you will still have to buy it) great, but taking that skill path means you will never get a bike, never be able to use a jump pack, never drive a vehicle (unless the Dreadnought is an upgrade on the skill tree from terminator) and so forth. If they make it so your path is a huge and complicated amount of irreversible choices and each on you make means that 2 - 3 other choices are now impossible it may work out fine. They can also make it so that you have multiple characters, one is locked as a Terminator, one as an assault marine and then raid groups and teams are limited in ratio as to which character you can use. The other way to go it to let you equip something like a Terminator suit and make it a huge cost in resources and if you die you have to collect and spend those resources again to get another suit. The resources can be the number of kills you've made (with bonuses for fighting champions and higher) minus the number of deaths you've suffered.
Terminator armor sounds great, but which one? Current Terminator suits, or Heresy era cataphractii armor? Or both?
