How is that being handled btw? Every race uses it. Some more than others, others less reliable than some. One of the clear advantages of the Eldar is being able to mass warp, and teleport more often than others. One class in particular (Warp Spider) does it almost as much as they move. Are classes with these type of abilities being handled like Jump Packs from SM (Click then Launch, then click to stop?) or are they being handled differently?
Well here is how I think teleporting should work so prepare yourself for lots of text. Eldar: eldar live and breathe teleportation I also think their's should be. The most reliable since they've been doing it for millennia. Eldar should have a webway get option to construct at every base so faster travel across their territory similar to skyrim fast travel have to be there first to teleport there right ? Anyways if warp spiders are included they should have a mild distance teleport that's instant to counter it cool down and distinct area "missing" ( I.e you might try to teleport behind a land raider to haywire grenade it but end up a few meters whatever away in front of a devastators squad ) this would make warp spiders not OP but still usable. Webway gates should be somewhat straight forward literally you enter a webway gate and you walk down a straight corridor of energy to the exit ,simple. ( p.s the webway gates have mild req cost since eldar have a bunch of these things EVERYWHERE ) Space marines: decently reliable teleporting but very infrequently used meanjng high req cost for teleportation perks or usage. Now if a terminator teleports it should scatter a bit more than eldar but not ridiculously more but noticeably. In the chance it strikes and mishaps it should damage the player ignoring armor. If it downs the player it insta-kills them. Chaos: slightly cheaper than LSM but not as reliable because the warp isn't too friendly unlike everyone else when they mishap it just stuns them knocks them back and they are where they where before attempted teleport. Orks: ork telyportas are the most unreliable and they scatter like crazy but are relatively cheap because it's orks. Telyportas should have a random affect on who it telypotrts to slight damage to a debuff to healing to damage resistance but more likely than not it just does nothing of interest to keep things fair. So what do you all think please no direct hate. DISCUSS
If we are talking about teleportation devices like the ones warp spiders and terminators use yes they should be unrelable even for eldar (warp spiders are considered the bravest aspect warriors because they use warp jumps,if i recall corectly) however webway gates are something quite different than warp jump generators and much more reliable and they could be used as the eldars main way of tranport even if the lore has to be stretched for this (if i remmber correct there is one webway gate per planet)
I think the more pressing problem with teleportation in game is how will it work? Not from a game balancing perspective but in a gameplay perspective. What I am trying to think of is how will a terminator or warp spider teleport from once place to another? Will it be you teleport and a map comes up you have an area within that map you can teleport to you select where you want to be and appear there more or less. Or will it be similar to a jump pack in you press your teleport and use the directional keys to move quickly through a ghost image of the rest of the game. This could work as it will be fluid stealthy and allow for vertical movement. Obviously when moving the player wouldnt actually be there so he or she wouldn't be susceptible to damage.
I'm not too interested in seeing teleportation in-game. Usage for deploying to a battlefield (or escaping it) is fine, but I think stuff would get too complex with warp spiders and stuff. Terminators could deploy somewhere (Territory A), and maybe deploy out of it (To a ship from where they deploy to territory B), but not something that they use in a battle
I don’t know how they will implement the different effects for each faction/army, but they could add homing beacon as an equitable item, this way people can teleport to the person how has the beacon on them (like they did in Warhammer 40K space marine PvP) , they can also have shrines on the4 mad to be a place people can teleport to without having to start at the beginning of the map. I just want to make sure, would teleporting also count as Deep Striking in this game ? Just my 2 cents
I dont see how its too different from using a jump pack, the player can only use it once in a while a terminator would have a long cool down on teleportation like in dow so I would expect to see terminators jumping around the battlefield like flies it would be used as a last resort escape card. Or as a risky teleport into combat with terminators being a slow unit it could work something like the sprint that MAX units have in plaentisde 2. Affording them some limited mobility for a very high cost unit which isnt a bad thing
Only Warp spiders use their "jump" in battle and there is allready a discussion about that in the Eldar part of the forums ...Everyone else just uses TP in a manners similar to drop pods but it is just faster and more dangerous just like Mngwa said on the post above me.
