Ideas on this? Can space marines swim? Walk along the bottom? Can orks swim? How should we cross water? Deep points, shallow zones... boats? Or do you think there should be no elementrof aquatic movment. I would really like to see lakes, rivers and streams. Ponds, dams and reservoirs. Bridges and tunnels, caves, cliffs, forests. And even mixed zones like a desert oasis. Underwater base/lab.. a huge destroyed 41st millenium style environment.. factories... but I think no matter where you are there should be bits of water.. maybe use water as a decent reason to fight as well as fighting for big buildings and complexes. You you have a tech resourse from factories and such and also a resourse to control biological aspects (more water res gets you a bonus to something like "troops get x% health if you controll this dam...). Any input welcome.
i think that we will not see boats for a long time and maybe they will use rivers + bridges just to have some way to block enemy movement, so we wont get swiming or walking through water but everything is possible in the space wolf books (the one where there was fighting against orks) ragnar felt into water and he could swim and even fight in it
I think thats a mistake to limit you to crossing a bridge...if the waters shallow (tidal movment?) Then you should be able cross.. if its too deep you cant. That changes the battle if after 2 hours the tide goea out and now your bridge tactic is oberwhelmed by tanks ceossong the shallows. ..
i dont think that we will get tides ^^ at least not for launch but you may be right, if the water is just low we should simply walk through but if its to deep we shall die trying ^^
I would love some bridge fights, like a tug of war trying to pass through gaining it. Swimming just does not feel right with the big armour and all.
Depending on how the respawn system is in this game, bottleneck assaults on bridges and in canyons shouldn't take more but 10 minutes or so. Just depends on the size of the forces, but it looks like we'll have a reasonable respawn rate/system so things like this don't like 5 hours, like in Planetside 2.
For the life of me, I can't make myself imagine the spectacle of a space marine trying to swim. I also doubt Orks put any time or effort into learning to swim either and Eldar being the only swimmers would be OP, so I wouldn't hold my breath (dohoho, puns) even if lore accepts the idea of space marines doing a Backstroke.
Power armor can be fully enclosed for instances of fighting in the Void, so I think they should have the Astartes trudge along the riverbed in their heavy armor. Orks are a bit difficult; they'd either built boats or catapult over. Eldar could use the Webway to cross rivers or use their hovercraft. Or, they could all use bridges or wait for the tide, which is a brilliant idea.
