Starrunner Redux Interst/ooc Thread

Discussion in 'Role Playing' started by BadDo9, Jul 1, 2015.

  1. I started this once before, but was over-eager and alienated my players by advancing too fast. Therefore, I am starting again, in order to refill my player-base and post slower so as to keep them. On another note, I have also gained more skills in writing as a GM, so... That's good, too.

@WanderingJester @Xanxas @Andraina @Xaphen @Shadhunter Please feel free to rejoin, and transpose your character from the original RP. You would be introduced later if we get any new players, in order to allow the new players to gain experience. If we don't get new players, we will begin where we left off. :D

Ask questions if you want to know more, or are unsure about somthing

    Premise
In the universe of StarRunner, the UTC (United Terran Council) has been running a type of utopia on earth and her colonies. Terra has been re-formed to it's natural glory, dotted by pristine, utopian Megatropolises that do not harm the environment. This was made possible due to the relocation of all dirty industry (Such as manufacturing) onto the mars Foundry-Planet. However, the recent pushes by activist groups to pust for equality for Off-Breed Humans (Anthromorphs and Technomancers) have caused plenty of systems to create the "Splinter" faction (Think North and South of the American Civil War). One would think that, given the might of Terra's Military, the war could not last long, but the Splinter has somehow been able to hold their own, and even push back the UTC forces.

The players will be riders of FRAMEs under the command of a Loyalist captain aboard the StarRuner super-carrier. (Eventually)

    Things to Know:

Each FRAME has a SOUL, an AI that inhabits the FRAME and acts as a companion to the Rider, manifesting as digital projections when outside of the FRAME. They will essentially act as a second character. They have their own personalities and are completely loyal to their Rider. Basic summery. Ask questions if unsure.

The FRAME system would be similar to many other types of Mecha. You have a good amount of liberty in designing it.
    Types are as follows:
Strykers - Mobility and fast-attack frames, Close Combat Oriented
Bulwarks - Slower, more durable Frames, Defense, support Oriented
Destroyers - Firepower-based Frames, Ranged Oriented

For weapons and technology, there are blades and shields of solid light. Laser weapons are a-go. Kinetic weapons and missiles are still valid weapons as well. Beyond that, you can create one signature weapon or system. Everything must be portable, however, such as carried rifles and swords or hardpoint mounted weapons. This is a really basic overview. Ask questions.
As for loot, that will be salvage, which will be consumed by the Ship's mechanics to give Player-Requested additions to their frames. (Be they weaponized or simply upgrades to statistical things. Speed, etc.)

For characters, there are different 'breeds' of huimans that you can choose from:
Humans- They're, well, human. They do get a bonus to their likability, due to less prejudice against them.
Anthromorphs- Ears and tail of base mammal (Or suitable replacements) and a personality quirk that coincides with base animal. This includes a boost in an ability, such as increased stealth, speed, stregnth, that will be imparted upon their FRAME.
Technomancers- Humans born with the ability to manipulate data currents, allowing for Field Hacking of enemy equimpment. This takes concentration, however.
Also, each rider will have been scouted out by the captain of the ship for a reason that will be up to you. Distinguished service in battle, Prodigy Mechanic, Trouble-making delinquent, etc. Again, basic information. Ask questions

    Mechanics
I am planning on a story-driven RP. Words stolen from @WanderingJester Essentially, during all direct combat scenarios and actions against the enemy will have overall structure from me but the details will be up to the players (i.e. I'll write something like "you can kill three guys, or two and strike at the mini boss" or the such, and allow the player to improvise how he kills them). If players would like to take some sort of direct action not offered, simply run it through me in PM or on this thread and I'll give you the possible results of that action. Wounds will work the same way in the Witcher RP, with light, medium and heavy.

    Light
wounds are superficial, they won't affect a character's ability, but the player must acknowledge that they occur during the post. Players may also have the liberty of doing this on their own, though during some situation I will require this to happen to characters. Medium wounds will affect the combat capability of a character, either through a disability that prevents using certain equipment or just a decrease in effectiveness. Heavy wounds completely incapacitates the character; he becomes vulnerable to an execution move by an enemy if not aided by a comrade.

    POSTING

I will ask that people post at least once a day. I would personally prefer more, but I realize that RL and timezones prohibit that in plenty of cases. I will post a full moving update once a day, Approximately every 24 hours, or once everyone has posted. in addition, I will post more often during downtime (Probably once two or three people post) in order to allow some greater character development. In combat, unless it will cause problems at that time, I will post a combat group update once the entire group posts

Again, words and Mechanic stolen from @WanderingJester (And most likely to be used by him)

[However, I also would like to encourage more post and activity within the RP, that's why I'm introducing Secondary Objectives. This is not to punish players who have RL obligations but to reward those who are willing to invest the time into this RP. How it works is that I'll check the RP every six hours (provided its not busy). If not a majority of players have responded but someone did post, I'll assign the group a secondary objective (during one of the six hour marks), which the active player can then proceed to complete. Any player which becomes active afterwards will have the choice of joining the original player (should he proceed to complete the SO), though it is achievable with one person. Completing these objectives will have two effects, a short term group reward and a long term individual reward. The short term group reward will occur usually immediately (stopping an enemy artillery barrage, ambushing enemy convoy, new options to complete primary mission, etc). While the long term effects may show after another mission or two (gathering honors for better gear, new knowledge/effectiveness on specific foes, additional skills to utilize, leadership positions, unexpected allies, etc.). This mechanism won't turn one character into a demi-god while the others (less frequent posters) into the average grunt, but it's designed to give the active posters something to do and to develop his character more, both skill and story wise, as a reward. Not to mention make life easier for the guys still maintaining the primary objectives. If all players decides to pursue the secondary objective at hand, it becomes a sub-primary, the immediate benefits to the group still exists upon completion, but the individual benefits in the long term does not. 1 personal benefits per mission, though there could be more group benefits if a player chooses to complete more secondary objectives.]

    Following is created by me:

Gambits are high-risk, high-reward maneuvers that can turn the tide of battle if successful, or seriously hinder you is they don't work.

EVERY CHARACTER WILL HAVE AN NPC LOVE INTEREST. THIS IS ANIME, AFTER ALL. FAMILIES WILL BE FORMED, AND I WILL ASSUME YOU ALL KNOW WHERE BABIES COME FROM AND WHAT COUPLES DO. THANK YOU.

  3. MORE INFORMATION ON TECHNOMANCY: (Text taken from RP posts)

"First thing you need to know is that the true cause of Technomancy is unknown. Some theorize it started as a side effect of the radiation used in the first SOULs and FRAMEs. Others say that it is the next step in human evolution. The only fact known for sure is that Technomancy accesses a normally dormant part of the brain. Somehow this allows us to see, connect with and influence ambient data streams in the air, as well as the code inside electronic and mechanical devices. One effect of this is the ability to communicate directly with AI, speaking with data instead of Words... The other main skill of Technomancy is the ability to input extra code or programs into such devices... These are the general abilities each Technomancer possesses. Each individual can use these, albeit with different amounts of strength. Technomancers do tend to have their own powers of expertise... As for our bodies, they are not truly affected. You've seen the orange aura that surrounds me when I use my powers? That's about it... although, overusing our abilities is very tiring. And genetically, we've found no correlation in DNA as of yet, but it seems to be more common in children with a Technomancer Parent, although children are born into families with no history, albeit much more rarely."

Keep in mind each Technomancer can have a different colored aura, As well as an area of power expertise.

Ask questions if you need more information.
  4. Colapse Colapse Forum Beta Tester

Sorry bro, I'm fighting to keep in RoB and DW as it is, since my current obligations prevent me from spending more time on the forum and Rping. Also, I was never into anime and robots (although I might be mistaken, but that's how I understood it), but thanks for the invite, much appreciate it!!!
