Specialization And Equipment Cost

I like the fact that bE is staying true to the lore by making each Eldar class fill a narrow niche; however, as one who likes playing a high variety of classes (my certs in PS2 were always spread out over pretty much every class, several vehicles and fighters, for instance) it does somewhat concern me.

The reason for this is simple: Eldar weaponry currently seems to be priced the same as weapons for the other factions, yet their weapons can be used by at worst 25% of their classes (and often more, since Bolters and such are widely available), while most of our weaponry is specific to a single class. For the same price, you get a much lower coverage.

If you unlock one weapon on a class with a lot of variety, that dramatically increases the amount of builds you can make on them, yet a weapon for a highly specialized class with few options makes far less new combos, too.

So in short, it just seems to me like the Eldar need to pay (or level) more than other factions for their gear if they plan to play multiple classes, and get less out of it in terms of progression. I feel like Eldar gear should be slightly cheaper to compensate for the fact that you have to buy a lot more stuff if you want options on each class, as well as the fact that each weapon bought adds less potential new builds to your account than it does for the other factions. These two factors combined just make individual gear pieces less value pet money/time spent than something new on another faction, and prices should reflect that.

    I agree wholeheartedly.

Gear and exp progression are a problem which needs to be addressed well before launch.
It was mentioned elsewhere, but I can't remember where! I'll have a search...

I'd like to see it! In a game that is asymmetrically balanced, it only makes sense that xp and unlock rates are asymmetrical too.
  4. Maybe not xp, but the unlocks and costs, definitly.
For xp, it would depend on their final use (there might be more than equipment, skins and skills).

Well, aspect warriors focused for one target, and often have one "principal" loadout, with minimal tweaks(some variations for DA), variety for them - just cosmetic, different task - take different aspect. Exarchs - elite, stronger, cost RP, still task oriented, but can have 2-3 loadouts that differs way to target, not the purpose. warlocks - multi-role psykers, flexible, with support accent, but capable to perform all basic roles - range/close/heal. autarch - hero, capable to carry nearly all non-psyker weapon, huge amount equipment variations with associated skills, Mary Sue of eldar army, able to fly on hawk wings with chainsword and meltagun wearing banshee mask(oww eahhh) and farseer - hero psyker, superb in support everything eldarish in his sight.
I think, autarch and psyker/exarch variety is a strong repayment for limits of aspects.

@Unahim - If you like diversity, I think you should me concerned about character slots than the progressions pricing :)

On a serious note - Your right about items having less value per money or xp. But that's only assuming that they will be equivalents of some other items from different factions. Hopefully, that won't be the case. I expect the Eldar equipment to be simply better. And that should be enough counterbalance towards the restrictions on variety of builds. Also, you would have hard time convincing the rest of the community why the Eldar items should be cheaper, especially cheaper in terms of real money. Bear in mind, the Eldar players are and will be a minority.

@noo - from what I've understood from a Twitch stream, Warlocks will be the support class, while the Farseer will be a damage-focused Hero class. Yeah, I know it's the other way around. Tell the devs that :) Oh, and to my dissappointment, Hawks Wings won't make you fly...

"Hawks Wings won't make you fly..."
    WHYYYY???!!!
seriously, swooping hawks must fly, isnt it? and spyders teleport? and autarch use ability of wearied back device? am i missed something?

Well I think they are making a mistake there regarding the Seers, but it's hardly their fault, Warlocks have been watered down over time and Farseers made more zappy, meaning that they have completely switched places from their original roles where Farseers guided the army and Warlocks kicked arse (the clue is in the names really).

    As for the wings, What!?
Do you mean they won't allow an autarch the same movement abilities as a Hawk, or that Hawks won't have true flight?

You can play every class of 1 sub-faction with 1 character slot, and from what they've said the bonuses from the sub-factions won't be so big that you feel you "need" to play a certain class in a certain sub-faction (very situational bonuses), so I'm not too worried.

With 4 character slots you could cover all Eldar sub-factions (but I see no point) or have 1 character for each faction, and be able to play every class in the game that way. Not too worried.

I think that "Hey guys, we're making Eldar items cheaper because they have a smaller window of use than those of other factions." wouldn't be too controversial. Of course, if bE plan to instead make every Eldar class (and every weapon) such a unique experience that you get your money's worth for every one of them, I wouldn't complain either.

Hawk wings will give you gliding abilities far superior to jump packs of other factions, with a lot more air time and control, allowing you to even fire salvos while in the air, but eventually you'll have to land.

I have no problem with that. 1 faction having full-flight infantry when nothing else can fly at all would be amazingly OP, and this sequence of Jump -> aerial assault/bombardement -> Land -> Skyleap is how it works on the TT too anyway.

I'm looking forward to maining a Swooping Hawk.

(Oh, and Warp Spiders aren't currently planned for launch, due to difficulty of their teleport mechanics.)

Ah well shame about the Spiders, and though their Teleport mechanics would be easy to implement, they'd certainly be much harder to balance..

As for the Hawks, yeah I'm with you on not being bothered by that... though that's hardly surprising as I've argued that right from the start since they've always had to land in TT.
Let's just hope they allow Hawks something equivalent to the skyleap ability as well.
