Warp Spiders would be many times more desirable than Hawks in my opinion BUT only if done right. If the warp ability is not done to a degree that it is is freakin awesome then I don't think that they are worth having. I would rather have a 2nd choice Swooping Hawk as a jump choice then a Warp Spider that has a cumbersome or not quite right warp function. How about this... As a warp spider when you select the action to warp, a mini map appears with a shaded in ring around your current position. You can select anywhere in the shaded area to warp to regardless of terrain or defensive terrain. In the unlucky instance where you have chosen a location that happens to be directly on top of an enemy your body emerges from the warp inside of the enemy and you both die. Or if you choose to warp to a location which is too close to an enemy psyker you instead emerge in a random location (scatter).
Well warp influencing effects such as Chaos Sorcerors or Tyranids Shadow in the Warp have absolutely no effect on Warp Spiders in the TT game (at least as far as I am aware). OFC that doesn't mean that it isn't the case in some bit of lore somewhere, can you point me to any sources that support that idea. Even if that isn't the case there is no reason why a chaos sorceror, or other psyker shouldn't be able to detect Warp Spiders moving through the warp in their immediate vicinity.
You mean the Eldar one or the Dark Eldar one? Because I'm pretty sure (having read the Eldar Path books recently) that there is no mention of Chaos Sorcerors messing with Warp Spider's movement.
the new rules they seem way more useful than they have in the past, but against spacemarine armor not too good. Will be interesting how they manage to attempt to balance them. They bit off a lot of problems when picking Eldar for a faction we don't play like the others.
I didn't mean that Hawks were useless. They would indeed be one of my first choice if the matter were to fight zergs of low armoured foes (e.g. guardsmen and gaunts), but in EC we will have to face very resistant opponents such as Orks and Space Marines. I grant you this point: Lasblasters could have a high rate of fire (such as a carbine) and have their usefullness, even against SM. But still, what bother me most is the light armour of the Hawks; it just can't protect them for long enough, so that they will cause sufficient damage to the mentioned enemies. The Eldar infantry is the most fragile one to be in the upcoming game, and that (with the fact that they're sooo sexy!) is the reason why I still stand for the Warp Spiders as jumping class at launch: with the Striking Scorpions they have the heaviest armour among all the Aspect warriors.
I mean the Craftworld's Eldar one. Again, I'm not sure if I get it from this book or somewhere else (I'm currently reading the last volume of the serie, which tends to mix together my memories about the Eldar). I'll post it here when I find it. EDIT: sorry for the double-post.
