I understand that bit. What I don't understand is in the present day, why do they want him dead, I doubt they all know about all the things he did.
The Word Bearer population of this game wants to be rid of him because we like the idea of what we could be without him, ie, not totally the bad guys. But there are Veterans of the Long War, so there would be others who despise him for the path he set in universe as well.

I'm not sure that's true. Kor Phaeron was never really popular in the Legion so it may just be that he has trouble getting power to oppose the status quo. Or not, haven't seen enough character development to gauge.
