Right in Aus we have 8 years in primary school, then we have 5 years in high school, then we move on to University or something

No. I'm from central europe. In our country we have 9 years elementary school, then 4 years high school. And then you can go to university.

EDIT: Only elementary is mandatory in our country. Every other school is optional.
