Sanctus: City of the Abandoned [Mordheim 40k IC]

The Order had fallen on some hard times.

They believed that this Anarchy was a sign from the Primordial Creator that it was there time to rise and take the City. But they were wrong. These people still followed the Corpse-Enemy..... poor fools. If only they realized the one they worshiped was not Mankind's savior, but Mankind's greatest enemy.

Remus sat before a lit fire, starring into the flames in thought. The angry mob nearby had troubled him. How could people stay so blind to what had been obvious to him his entire life? As if agreeing with him, Valkurya sat beside him, currently in human form, though Remus knew the Daemon was already growing impatient.

Aegis, Daric, and Alicia were reading over the Order's teachings, while Jacob and Samantha stood guard.

Finally, Remus stood and faced his followers. "My brethren, we must act. Things look bleak now, but we must begin our work. The followers of the Emperor still live and breathe, and as long as they do, evil will be committed."

He walked to a Map upon a table. "First, we must deal with this mob. Then, we resupply ourselves with weapons and recruits. There is an old abandoned PDF outpost nearby. If we can get to it first, we can loot it and take it's equipment. Then come's the matter of recruiting more into our ranks. That matter, my friends, is simple. The deeper we go into the city, the further down from the sky, the more we will find willing recruits. They have been abandoned by the Emperor, there whole lives, beneath their so-called God, have been hell. We will offer them change. Freedom. No matter how "heretical" it may seem to them, they will kneel before us."

The others began to pack their things and prepare for the day. They were all on edge and nervous. After all, this city was filled with as many enemies as potential allies, and just because others worship the Truth doesn't mean they will help.

"What of the Mob, my liege?" Alicia asked.

Remus chuckled. "They are disorganized, and as far as I know, poorly armed. Valkurya and I wield the powers of the Warp with ease. If they find us, we will route them, and force the survivors to join our army. Just as the Redemption keeps Penitent followers, they shall be our Penitents."

Remus knew that the Redemption was present upon this Planet. Those vulturous bastards just loved to impose their mad order. But it was more with sadness, rather than rage, that he looked down upon the Redemption. They meant well. They meant to save people's souls. Instead, they damned their followers. Don't they know what the Emperor does to his followers in the Warp? Don't they know that the Astronomicon is an inferno of eternal torment and damnation, a false light that is in fact a flame of eternal pain? If only they knew. If only they could see the souls sent to the Emperor, suffering eternally, and compare them to the Souls that have become one with Chaos, singing in an eternal choir of enlightenment and bliss.

In time, all will see the lies of the Emperor revealed. As long as Remus had his followers and Valkurya by his side, nothing would stop them.

They began to exit the Hab-Block, Danik and Samantha taking up the rear while the Cultists were sandwiched into the middle of the crowd, their leaders in the front and the Guardsmen in the rear. If the Mob found them, they would face Remus' staff, filled with the essence of several lesser daemons, and Valkurya's divine judgement, her flesh consecrated by a mighty Daemon of Chaos.

(OCC: Heading out to head towards the weapons cache and then to head deeper into the city, to find the misfits and madmen that would be more accepting of their beliefs)

As Marcus and his squad exited their temporary shelter they were greeted by the rising sun whose light partially blinded them for a few seconds. Once their eyes adjusted to the natural light they could clearly see the decrepit streets before them. The rockcrete walkways and walls of the buildings cracked and discolored from years of neglect and abuse by those that remained in the crumbling red light district and the roads clogged with wrecked vehicles of various descriptions and ruble from collapsed buildings. But despite these horrid conditions the group marched on unfazed searching for supplies and other survivors.

Their search proved fruitful as on the trek through the packed motorways they suddenly heard shouting and gun fire coming from further up the road. Upon moving forward to investigate they saw a sight all too common in the city, a group of ten or so individuals clad in makeshift armor made from pieces of scrap metal ranging from looted pieces of flak armor to folded over street signs had just launched an ambush against a much smaller group of what appeared to be four armed civilians who had quickly taken cover behind a de-tracked and burned out chimera. The 23rd must act quickly for the civilians will not last long without assistance.

    [enemies]
10x raiders equipped with auto guns and scavenged armor
    [potential allies]
4x civilians equipped with auto guns and normal clothing

Remus lead his followers out of the hab block through a back door and stated on their way towards the supposedly abandoned PDF outpost by taking the back alleys. While not the most pleasant route considering even when the city was in top condition and order all kinds of things took place in these dark and secluded areas giving it a rather remarkable stench. Soon though they managed to come a cross the outpost that was indeed in top condition and most likely held all sorts of worth while items but there was a down side to their discovery. The mob that had chased them off earlier had found it first with the unofficial leader of the gathering, an aging but heavily built priest of the Imperial cult with a long silver beard armed a chainsword in his right hand and a makeshift banner in his left was giving a sermon from atop a ruined pile of scrap metal that was once a watch tower.

"Faithful sons and daughters of the Imperium of his so holy God Emperor rejoice! For we have not only driven back the heretics that dared to desecrate the very ground upon which they step, too long have we permitted these heathens to continue living! Which is why we have come to this spot to break open the doors of this once active home of those that were to protect us from such atrocities that have been committed but even in their holy defiance of such great horrors failed. But I say it is time for the average man and woman to take up arms in the name of the Emperor and to fight against the encroaching darkness that surrounds us! Now break down those doors and let us gain the proper equipment for a worthy crusade against it!" With his speech concluded he held his chainsword high and reved it as some of the larger and more burly men and woman that made up the mob picked up a rather large metal beam and began to run at the plasteel doors that lead into the outpost attempting to bash it open. Though the mob held the advantage in numbers they were definitely outgunned by the cultists who also held the advantage of stealth as the mob was too busy trying to enter the outpost to notice the group.

    [enemies]
20x angry civilians armed with anything they could find from makeshift torches made from table legs and cloth soaked in promethium to lead pipes and even large two handed clubs fashioned from street signs

1x Imperial Cult Priest armed with a chainsword and makeshift banner

Remus smirked. They were right about one thing: a Crusade would begin soon.

"Everyone," he said to his followers. "You know what to do."

Every member of the Order lined up, side by side, with Remus. They all leveled their guns, Lasgun, Bolt Pistol and Lasgun alike, with the Priest's unsuspecting head.

"Chop off the head, and the body will wither." Remus said.

Remus then began to channel the powers of the Warp through his staff, preparing an attack of his own, while his followers all simultaneously opened fire on the mob, raining death upon them while mainly focusing their attack on the Priest.

(OCC: Remus spends one turn to charge up a Psyker attack, while everyone else uses their firearm weapon to gun down the crowd, mainly focusing fire on the Priest leader)

'Shit, this is bad,' Marcus thought with a grimace,'if we don't intervene quickly those civilians are going to get slaughtered.'

Turning to his squadmates he looked each of them in the eyes as he prepared to explain their roles to them."Alright we need to get in there quickly if we're going to save those civilians. Arthur, Alexis I want you two to get into cover near the civilians and start laying down some suppressive fire on those raiders. Steven, John, Alice I want the three of you to lead the advance towards them, I'll be following right behind you. Rachel I want you to follow to follow us while moving from cover to cover, taking shots at any of the enemies you can see. Any questions?"

As they each nodded their affirmations to the plan Marcus said,"Alright then lets move out!"

Arthur and Alexis quickly ran towards the wreckage of a truck near the ruined Chimera the civilians were hiding behind. Turning towards the direction that the raiders were coming from the two of them switched their Lasguns to full-auto and began laying fire onto the raiders.

As this was happening Steven, John, and Alice began advancing towards the raiders position, moving in a tight triangle formation to maximize the protection afforded to them by their riot shields. Following closely behind them were Marcus, who was firing his Plasma Pistol at the raiders, and Rachel who moved from cover to cover firing her Hellgun at the raiders.

The small warband of redemtionists marched out of the abandoned temple and headed towards into the industrial district with no other goals than finding Heretics to purge with extreme prejudice. Which is exactly what they found when they entered a factory that at first seemed to be abandoned. However this assumption was quickly corrected when a large muatant came from the shadows and took a swing at Avilex and just barely missed, smashing the rockrete support next to him.

"Screamin men in me 'ome! Get em Ruckers!" The stupid brute yelled as he pulled he club out from the ground. On the other side of the factory three degenerates howled as the picked up their makeshift weapons and charged the group with reckless abandon.

    [Enemies]
1x Mutant Brute with makeshift armor and club

    3x Degenerates with makeshift weapons

As soon as Icthcyis managed to get the sewer entrance to open with his wrench instead of being greeted by blinded by sun light the gang was greeted by a ceiling and a large open room. When everyone climbed out of the sewer entrance they were able to get a better look at the area around them which seemed to be an abandon store house of some kind. Indeed there was no living things there besides themselves the building was total abandoned but far from empty as there were shelves upon shelves of crates and boxes that held god knows what.
(ooc you hit the loot jack pot in the rolls so have fun;))

    [Valhallan 597th @Keidivh]
Abigail lead her squad out of the factory and into the streets with relative quickness given their lack of friends on the outside and the decrepit nature of the factory itself. Soon enough though they came upon another factory that seemed to be in pristine condition and upon opening the doors they saw something quite disheartening. A massive mutant brute attacking a group of strangely dress men one of them even wearing a flaming crown who appeared to be the leader. They then saw the degenerates who had noticed their entrance and had changed their coarse from charging the other group to running screaming towards them.
(OOC Yep by the all knowing cruelty of the dice you have ended up in the same place as the redemtionists)

    [Derraesh's Reavers @Maleth]
Derraesh and her group would pass through the doors without any resistance in sight in fact the other side of the door was completely deserted. The only evidence that humans had been there was a burned out barracks and several crucified bodies with signs hanging from their necks reading 'Liars and lapdogs" that lined the road. Every so often one or tow of them appeared to be alive but were in so much pain they were unable to speak or even scream. Truly something that the Dark eldar found amusing as they went past the barracks and further into the city following the road.

    [Warhounds @Vulpas]
As the makeshift transport plowed through the piles of trash the encroaching industrial sector grew larger and brighter as the sun continued to rise. After a few more minutes of plowing through the loosely piled trash the truck's wheels hit solid ground in the way of the plasteel conveyor belt that stood as the absolute bottom of the fields of trash. With more traction and a smoother terrain the truck suddenly accelerated to speeds unseen by it's driver since they had managed to salvage it. With it's new speed it quickly managed thunder it's way to the industrial sector smashing it's way through a chain link fence and entering the sector proper.

    [Laughing Skulls @BuriasDempsey]
The group in their assigned formation slowly but surly made their way down the skyscraper in record time reaching the halfway point in a little under half an hour. Though this was a great success they found themselves needing a short rest but this small comfort was denied as a door gave way revealing a group of nine plague zombies dressed in administratum robes who immediately began shambling towards the group of seven renegades.

    [Enemies]
    9x Plague zombies

    [101st Vostroyan Firstborn Regiment @DeezNuts]
The Vostroyans left the library carrying several maps of the massive city rolled up and put into their bags as they moved into their chosen formation. Using their maps to the best of the ability they got to the outskirts of the industrial sector quickly and quietly having managed to avoid most of the patrolling bands of mad men and heretics. The first noticeable thing they would notice of the industrial sector was just how bleak it looked with a total lack of colors besides the dark grey of rockcrete and plasteel not much unlike their homeworld besides the obviously different climate. But they didnt have time to let the bleak and dull nature of the sector sink in as a plethora of gun shots rings out from the south as what appears to be another squad of surviving guardsmen are storming a hab block.

Vail couldn't believe their luckat exiting the factory and not being set upon by heretics, traitors, or zombies. Not that they were in every inch of the city, but the Emperor seemed to like messing with her plans for survival by tossing in whatever fresh horror the galaxy had to offer. But so far things had been going well. The troops were in stellar formation which set her mind at ease, and the Tanna brew warmed her up a bit.

This warm sensation was replaced by ice running in her veins upon entering another factory. Mutants were charging at them, but that wasn't what caused her to pause. No, it was the group of screaming fanatics on the other side of the room. Redemptionists... I swear to the Throne if I die from these pircks me and the big guy are going to have some serious words. Vail had seen Redemptionists before, and knew they would gladly slaughter any who they thought were zealous enough for the Emperor. Which was generally everyone besides them. If she had it her way, she would already be walking out the door, no fracks given. But that's not what her troopers expected, they expected the vailiant Commissar Vail to leap into combat, chainsword tearing through foes of the Imperium. Breaking that trust now would be a death sentence.

"Orders ma'am?" Jurgen asked simply, as if he were asking what she wanted for breakfast this morning. Keeping her stoic pose, she took a sip of Tanna tea before unholstering her pistol and chainsword.

"Engage, bring down the hostiles approaching us. Kolbe, Ellen, keep em back, stay on the defense. Grifen, Ranald, give em a taste of the Emperors fury. Jinxie... Just use the pistol for now dear, no need to bring the factory down on our heads." With a resounding affirmative the troops fell into position, already laying down fire. Vail joined in the fun, aiming her bolt pistol and firing into the charging mutants.

    @Grall_Stonefist
She knew that the mutants would be cut down quick enough. But the Redemptionists were a whole other issue. She needed to ensure they were on her side, or at the very least were focused on flaying heretics and mutants, not Imperials.

She called out as loud as she could, hoping they'd hear over the din of battle. "This is Commissar Vail of the Valhallan 597th, remain calm, we are here to assist!"
  8. As the group was attacked by idiot mutants, Avilex had just dogded out of the way, when his group entered their combat state.
"SCURGE AND PURGE" Avilex yelled as he swung his own powermace, aiming for the massive brutes albow.
The rest of the group barely had time to react before Thanes allmost ihuman warcry sounded as he charged the brute to assist his redemtor.
Seing that both High ranking members where engaging the brute in melee, Pontius instead braced and opened fire on the lesser mutants, while he still had the chance, seing that they where facing few, he knew his chance to lay down lead was short.
And as Pontius predicted, next in Line the two penitents charged, Danix with his roaring evicerator, and damian firering his autopistol while swinging his flail overhead.
This left the last to cultists to be on guard, lest chancing to shoot their own, though This was less glorius, this gave them the chance to spot a group of much better armed of what looked Like former guardsmen,
"UNKNOWN GROUP BEHIND US" Linia yelled as she and Robertus raised their weapons, but dident fire, these dident look like renegades or heretics, and without Avilex orders they couldent be sure just yet
  9. Just about then things seem to be going their way, it seemed fate wanted to remind them just where they were again. And it had to come in the form of shambling corpses in ragged clothing of the administratum. So reall there wasn't much difference between now and when they were alive in Solin's view. "Bruce suppressive fire. Janice torch them. The rest, lasguns, pick your targets and put them down." The Lieutenant ordered as he pulled out his bolt pistol and aimed at the head of one of the plague zombies as Shelia readied her bolter and opened fire as well. With a roar of delight Bruce braced himself as he let loose a torrent of heavy stubber fire at the largest concentration of zombies while Janice tried to have more discipline by not cackling madly as a gout of flame erupted from her weapon. The rest opened up with there lasguns, aiming at targets that escape the initial wrath of Bruce and Janice's weapons fire.

    <Derraesh's Reavers>

As the warband walked down the street, Derraesh smirked upon seeing that the Mon'Keigh had been stringing up their own kind for if they were that divided among each other, the Hekatrix was feeling pretty confidant that the humans would be too focused up their internal squabbling to deal with her band.
Meanwhile, Izerasira was breathing a little too heavily than normal, the pain of those that were still alive upon their crucifix a sweet nectar to the Wych. Naturally, that brought a ill-advised comment from Armadazar "Looks like Izerasira's been touching herself again."

Needless to say, the Warrior's comment drew a snicker from everyone barring Izerasira, Derraesh and Aeskeri who looked offended, exasperated and bemused respectively. Sighing loudly, the leader of the band said "That's the third time you made the same dumb joke about her. Anyways, we have more important things to worry about than bedroom habits, so let's keep moving as we'll need to find a place to call our own first."
The butt of the joke, Izerasira then venomously replied "Armadazar, do keep in mind that you were just like that once when you were younger!" But before it got out of hand, the Scourge said to the pair of them "Lady and Gentleman, now's not the time for fighting. Save it for later."

With the Wych and Warrior settling for giving each other a glare that reeked of sibling rivalry, the argument was at least defused as the Reavers pressed onwards, looking for a place that would at least offer them shelter from any Mon'Keigh mobs that decided that Eldar heads looked good on the end of sitcks, rather than their own kind's heads.
