I am a Imperial Fist fanboy myself, but I would much rather see Ultramarines, at least at launch. It would be interesting to see them done in an interesting way so as to dispel all of the arbitrary Ultrasmurf hate.

    Uhmmmm how about no? :p

Not just as an Ultramarines-Die-Hard Fan but especially because of that "Smurf"-hating. And with playing them bad-ass style people will learn to appreciate them more. Just how playing Space Marine or reading the Ultramarines novels helped teaching people to appreciate them.

Furthermore they are kinda important gameplay-wise as they are "the natural enemies" of the Tyranids. If you rather would be for Imperial Fists for the 5th chapter.... No problem but replace them? No thank you ;)

PS: Ultramarines are nowhere near Mainstream. They are for a good reason one of the main chapters of the Wh40k universe. Their Primarch after all wrote the Codex Astartes which caused all the legions to be put into Chapters like we know them now. Without him there would be no Raven Guard, no Black Templar, no Novamarines and many many chapters more.

Furthermore they are one of the few chapters which also fight by the Codex...

Look, we all know Ultramarines are a bunch of ponces who really need to get that stick out of their collective ass, but I figure you have to include the bog-standard in the game. Why? Because that way the people who aren't hardcore fans (and yes, we want them to play this game because we want this game to succeed and as much as I love you all, I don't think we alone can make it succeed financially) will actually have a faction in hand that demonstrates what the arch-typical Space Marine is. I mean, how crazy can the other Chapters seem when there is no "normal" Chapter to measure them against? (Again, taking the perspective of an individual with a complete lack of 40k knowledge.) So the Ultramarines have to be there so that those unfamiliar with the lore have a "standard" Space Marine chapter to compare the others to. Is this way of doing it all that fun for those of us who already know the differences? No, but this is one of those things that is going to happen for the benefit of the game and new players, despite the grumbling of hardcore fans. I don't like it anymore than you do, but it makes a lot of sense from a development perspective... Plus, I'll be playing Chaos, so I really really really like the idea of killing a few legions of Ultramarines. :D

  4. The Ultramarines used to be the Joe Everyman of the Space Marines, until the Great Destroyer came.
  5. Cause it is multiplayer warhammer 40K game. If it is a singleplayer game whose story is focused on a specific chapter, you can take what-ever chapter you want, But in a game where you can select which chapter you are, i would be a crime not to have them in. They are the classic space marines and they will stay.
  6. Great DEVOURER. tyranids are destroyers, yes but they are devouring more then they are destorying.

  7. if they were quiet about it, it would be fine
  8. it is the same thing as remocing the Black legion or the bad sunz. It is just something that you don't do.

Since Graham McNeill was confirmed as a writer for EC in the last couple weeks, everyone has to be happier about Ultramarines in the mix.

  10. well, they do, but GW doesnt play it up enough. Their tyranid speciality, as well as their roman theme should be played up way way more than it is. Marneus calgar needs to look more roman!
