Hi everybody, I'd like to start a discussion about the newer guns in EC, first - plasma cannon. I'm curious how it could work. I suppose it will have: 1. 1 shot one kill capability against basic infantry (at least while directly hit or maybe indirectly too?). 2. Very slow rate of fire accompanied by some kind of warming up mechanics like lascannon or meltas. 3. Substantial range. I'm also wondering what size the template should be? In TT you could squeeze about 4 marines under but I guess for a computer game purposes it should be a bit bigger, something about 10 meters in diameter (too much, too small?). Comments welcome .
The same as in Space Marines. Single shot Heavy shot With the advantages and disadvantages - With Single shot, it takes 2 or 3 shots to kill a target. - With maximum load (Heavy shot), it can kill a group (the targets are very close to the each other). And it consumes a lot of energy and it takes time to reload the weapon. (for me) Edit : Too close shots, can kill devastator like Space Marines.
I'd say do it like that, but make sure that the splash - while damaging to the devastator himself - does little or no damage to his allies. Kind of like the melee in the most recent stream.
That may be difficult to achieve knowing we'll have friendly fire (not that I don't like it, I'd personally prefer the splash to have a smaller dmg for allies).
It's not difficult, they've already done it with the current melee system: the swing which is aimed at the enemy staggers friendlies but doesn't do full damage. All they would have to do is twiddle with some numbers. Their idea is to keep melee a viable option without endangering your teammates, I think that idea could easily be applied to the plasma cannon. Direct hits on friendly units should do full damage though, so we don't completely lose friendly fire. TLDR: full damage on direct hit friendly fire, reduced damage on splash hit friendly fire.
Space marine did it right in my opinion,and just in case someone is worried about plasma cannon spam there is FF in the game!
Yeah, I'm scared at the thought of another friendly fire debcle . My only wish is to keep PC as deadly as can be, I don't think 3 shots to kill a marine is ok, very lore unfriendly, maybe with plasma gun - yes but not plasma cannon. It should also do a substantial dmg to vehicles imo.
No god not another one!! While it might be unfriendly to lore in my opinion PC should be the jack of all trades kinda heavy weapon for gameplay reasons(it has good dmg good armor penetration and average/slow RoF) making able to deal with anything but not being the best against anything (except packs of nids ofc!)
Should work out, so long as it also slows down the devastators carrying them. Charging-firing slowing them further or even stopping them totally. What might be interesting is if you were allowed slow movement while charging but had to stop to actually fire the weapon or slower projectile speed compared to the plasma gun. All this to stop PCs from becoming too ubiquitous, make them too jack-of-all-trades-esque and they become plasma guns with AV.
Well in Space marine you were being slowed when firing weak shots but you were being slowed almost to halt when using the charged shot so i think it was really good!
