One real problem for LSM : Presets suck

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dreadspectre, Jan 24, 2017.

  1. Why does having shitty Presets matter? Because LSM are the faction most likely to have new players who can only access presets for, well quite awhile in this case.

I just made a Rank 1 banana in an attempt to bring my "vetness"(#1 NA for sure) over to LSM and help out. I honestly can't even make much of an impact anymore. Now granted I myself am rusty after a 2 month break but not much has changed. I'm still probably more experienced than the average newbie, know the maps etc.

However these presets...wow. Chainswords not cutting it anymore, at all, ever.

I have NO AV OPTION. I cannot stress this enough, NO AV. HB does not count. This is a -major- blow to LSM right now. I saw vehicles going unchallenged match after match, no one has access to AV. No one has gotten the AV weapons from boxes yet.

Bolter is still ok(my aim is kinda ass though haha). Tactical does it's thing if you can survive heh.

Apoth is probably ok but obviously underperforms a rank 6 geared one.

Heavy is probably the only one that doesnt really matter, you're usually dead if someone finds you anyway, you're just a turret and your damage is pretty much the same at rank 1 as it as at rank 6.

Now compound these crappy presets(mainly GA, and having no AV) and LSM start to have odds stacked against them, they get steamrolled and get very low exp/req gains. That means that new players(who, I don't know how anyone can doubt this, definitely make up a large part of LSM) will be STUCK with these bad presets for longer than any other faction did.

A CSM player would have the same presets, so one would think that CSM would be losing hard too. However the fact that they aren't probably goes to show/prove the newbie hordes on LSM side theory. CSM is still made up of overwhelmingly seasoned/vet players. They can handle a couple noobs with presets only now and then.

I think ALL factions need an AV preset at the start. Or at the very least a free AV weapon/Meltabomb option. There has to be SOMETHING for them to fight back against vehicles and not hoping and relying on some vet player having an AV loadout.

And good lord, do something with the Chainsword. It's so sad in anyone but a Scorpions hands right now heh.

Yeah I completely agree, not having any AV while leveling any character but an Eldar is a massive pain, I would suggest giving all of the heavies a lass/zap cannon loudout so that newer players can stand a better chance against transports.

I generally have had an ok time using the default loadouts, maybe they could us a bit better tuning, having a stamina regen on a tact/shoota is a waste of time I feel.

A more controversial suggestion would be to remove the Fire dragon as a default class and make people unlock them in a box/store since all other races need to get their AV from boxes or the store, I feel this could help even the playing field for new players.

Agreed on this. As a side note, I've seen that Chaos seems to always have 2-3 jumpfist people that as soon as a vehicle is anywhere near a point, they stream out of it just tearing the thing in half. Chaos and Eldar seem to be far and away the have the best mindset to get rid of enemy vehicles, though even Orks are still better about it than LSM.

It's very hard to take out protected vehicles going after them alone, whether you are going at it long or short ranged, but add one or two more people, and it seems to become almost trivial. I think an AV loadout would REALLY help jsut get more bodies out there even if they are just distractions.

The alternative to this is much earlier/easier/cheaper unlocks for mastery compared to CSM. Also, you only really need apoth to fight in both melee and ranged at the same time.
  5. True but then LSM is even shorter on capping units. Which is another touchy subject in regards to LSM, do we let GA cap or not heh.

Tacticals are much less common than they probably should be, at least faction playstyle intention anyway.
  6. I agree with your post, as my like to it gives away, but I figure I should act in defense for bE to explain the method behind the madness.

Clearly, they wanted each class to have a single preset, which is why Eldar have an assload compared to the other races. This is (assumedly) so that the player can try out the class quickly and see if it works with their playstyle instead of taking the time to build your own set from scratch and possibly getting the wrong idea. The problem with this is as you pointed out; they offer absolutely no answer to vehicles.

Now that there's a good idea as to why they do it, it makes me wonder how, if they hopefully go through with your suggestion, they'd implement it. Would they throw in an AV preset of any class for the sake of just having an AV? Or, would they replace one of the current presets with an anti-vehicle one, or even maybe just make duplicates for each class with an AV possibility. The Eldar don't really need this question asked since they have the Fire Dragons, but it's a question that could mean a lot for the other races. After all, too many presets can be a bit overwhelming for the new players.

Personally, I feel the best way to go about it is to either supplant the current devastator preset with a dedicated tank killer, or to create a single AV preset of either class, though I'd love to hear what others have to say (after all, being as specific in what is wanted as possible leads to less work for the Devs)

Chainsword is getting buffed to 100 pen, so rejoice!

  8. According to the twitch stream, they are going to remove the defaults we have now anyway and replace with editable loadouts starting at Rank 1 as soon as you start unlocking gear. (All part of the LP and AP re-work and they will give us ~7, maybe more loadout slots when they do this.)

Even if they do not include an AV option from the beginning for each faction (which was not covered in the stream either way), that should help quite a bit.

Personally, I think each faction should get something that can hurt AV, but the best option(s) should still need to be unlocked. Example: Rank 1 (0 point) Fire Dragon would get the fusion gun, but not a melta bomb yet. Not helpless against vehicles, but not optimal either.

One thing I've noticed recently is that there are far more Tacticals running around than I'm used to. That's as it should be lore-wise, but it means that in-game LSM are really hurting for heavy weaponry. I suspect the pre-sets contributed to this.
