Meh, must just be me then. It always looked to me like my guy was just holding the under barrel of his primary weap if I didn't switch first.

I think the other big factor specifically for LSM is that GA cannot cap like the Orks or the CSM. The ability to be strong at melee and cap a point afterwards can be a good advantage depending on the map. Without that ability, there's even less of a reason to go GA over JPA.

I'd be totally fine with GA LSM getting the ability to cap, it's kind of silly they can't still. If I recall Eldar only get DA as their cappers, so maybe banshees being able to cap as well may benefit, although I suppose there would never be any DA if that was the case...
I'd have to think about the repercussions of that more for eldar, but marines I don't see a reason not to.

There's a very simple solution to Eldar lacking a melee capper which doesn't cause the Avenger to go extinct. You give the Dire Avenger a power sword.

Plenty of Eldar classes have access to Exarch weapons, and Dire Avenger Exarchs can take power weapons, dire swords and shimmer shields. I would suggest that basic Dire Avengers have access to power swords and the Dire Sword and Shimmer shield are left as Exarch exclusive weapons. This would also allow people who bought the Mael Dannan sword to actually use it, simply allow it to be used as either a power sword for basic classes or a Dire Sword for the Exarch.

Hah, good luck with that, it's easy to break that shield.

Give the shields a 'cannot be taken with capture key' quality?
Im getting a feeling some LSM players who are voting in favor of removing PF from JPA are just butthurt their GA can't cap...

And dude, the video in your signature, it ruined my day :( lol

How would this be more effective than what can already be done with 4 shields, 4 tacticals and 2 apoths? Orks can carry shields, including a unique shield just as strong as the Storm Shield, and still cap, yet this does not come up as an issue.

I really don't think shield bros being able to cap would break the game in any way, the shield only functions when actively raised and thus its power is in protecting someone capping, not in being the capper.

I'm sure there are, and there are things that would kill them too. You do realize that Orks can already do that right? It's not a problem for them and it wouldn't be a problem for Space Marines.

But if you're not satisfied with that, I'll name the things that directly counter such a tactic.

    • Meltas, both single and multi
    • Plasma
    • Tempest Launcher, which by itself could kill an entire squad of rushing shield assaults by itself
    • Krak/Plasma/Stiky Grenades in general would be hell for them, if they dodge they get shot anyways
    • Kannon, wipe an entire squad ezpz

Concentrate fire, I don't care how many you send, if you have high ground and are firing at them they will die.

There is a reason Orks don't do it, because it doesn't work. Shield Bros are for supporting pushes from ground level with backup from Tacticals/Shootas. They absorb damage and give people something to hide behind.

I am completely ok with giving LSM Ground Assaults the ability to cap. Orks can already do it I don't see what the fuss is about honestly. Give them something other than the shield to define them.

Nobody says that, you are trying to paint the entire opposing point of view with a single stroke. That's bad debate form used by someone who can't find a single reason to justify keeping powerfist on JPA.

It's been established that they don't need the Power Fist, as Power Sword is a better melee weapon. A lot of people have stated that to be true so far. They don't need it for AV, as that role would be then filled by Ground Assaults and the real AV class, the Devastator. The JPA takes the one thing that is supposed to balance the Powerfist, it's slow speed, and throws it out the window. The powerfist doesn't get punished for its speed because the jetpack counteracts it. It makes it in essence a perfect weapon to a good player.

You can stun a JPA that's using a powerfist and he can jet-dodge around behind you and INSTANTLY hit you. If you D-Bash stun him again, he will do it again and you will die on the second hit guaranteed. I tested what was said earlier in the thread that you should just constantly D-Bash and it's false, it's not a proper counter and doesn't work at all. It gets right around it's slow speed because of the jetpack, and that's the problem right there.

There is nothing I have heard that can keep it tied to JPA thus far. So I am obliged to just assume it's, "We just like abusing the combo".

If someone wants to slap down a good reason as to why they should keep it I'm waiting. Just remember what the JPA is made for, to disrupt and assault defensive locations. That's why Chainswords/Power Swords should be their go-to. Fast, visceral combat.

I see your point here but i'd rather the 'jump out of Dbash' exploit was fixed along with the 'PF break Dbash' thing...
Now that i think about it, in all honesty i would be okay with Raptors/JPA getting a melta+meltabomb bundle instead of PF, and a PF reserved for Vet Raptors.

I suppose it comes down to whether you believe JPA should be given the ability to tankhunt or not. I believe they do but i'm sure a lot of people would find that OP and whatnot cus we already have Lascannons and Multi-meltas. They usually don't count the risk of having to face an entire squad spawning out of that vehicle though to stuff you full of bullets so yeah.

But what about the other 6 shields you also have to break then? Shields in mass would become a serious problem. Especially for orks with no melta, grave, or SoC. Only the painboy poison nade would help but then you'd be trading out a big part of ork support just to stop an enemy class.
