I think a possible way to allow the lascannon to be a tad bit more versatile, is to reduce the charge up time by one second(or X amount of time) when targeting a player.
Search function at the top can really be your friend! That said there have been several ideas about making the weapon more user friendly but they all become problematic due to making the weapon very good for killing players.
The lascannon's supposed to be an anti-vehicle/anti-giant-monster weapon, not something meant for picking off human-sized foot troops one at a time.
The lascannon isn't really supposed to be versatile. It is similar in function to a Javelin missile launcher, whereas the Astartes missile launcher is the RPG-29
I think the 15 players at current sort of skews the mechanics. Removing 1/15 of your teams AI power to combat a vehicle that may or may not show up is sort of a waste. Right now a predator is more or less an irritation unless they are being ridiculously good with it. You can casually powerfist it/etc because most people aren't repairing it. When the 30v30 starts with a Vindicator around you are not likely to be able to get anywhere near the thing and will have to snipe it down with las-cannons, making them overall more valuable. It was never really intended to hit (super)man sized targets at range though when you do it is certainly sweet. I think it's the same thing that's going to make heavy bolters more useful, as I'd rather suppress 5-6 guys than 2-3.
I've killed lots of people with lascannons, just use the third person stuff to watch them and when they start aiming and standing still or moving slowly just aim at their feet and they don't see it. Or shoot them from behind. I've gotten 18 kills with a lascannon on the bright not rainy refinery place.
I think the las in general is an ok weapon, the problem rises from the fact that there aren't NEARLY enough targets to justify pulling it and gimping yourself against infantry targets to such a degree, especially when you could pull a plasma cannon and still be viable against infantry. The maps aren't big enough to justify that much range, nor are there enough targets. What does this mean for a las user? 1.) Not as much experience earned 2.) Not much to do (alot of down time) 3.) Could be hurting your team if they need someone more viable in more situations 4.) At the worst, dying alot trying to make the weapon "worth it" At this point, the only thing I really feel the lascannon needs is "more to do". This raises a problem though, more targets means you are also bringing in "vehicle spam", which we all know would be downright horrible. That means the only other viable options are... 1.) More experience for a vehicle kill (make it ungodly lucrative) 2.) More objects that aren't vehicles to blow up in the future like; bunkers, doors, "things" in the sky, maybe artillery positions off map that only las cannons can hit, etc 3.) Perhaps a small buff to las damage to heavily armored targets to really solidify its place (without question) over weapons like the plasma cannon. The reason being, if you can only be good at one thing, you better be the best at it. 4.) And for the love of everything holy or otherwise, dev pistols, at least then you can pretend you are doing something when not using the las.
