Alright. We need to come up with methods of getting people interested in 40K, or at least, getting people to not hate it. How should this be done? DISCUSS!
"Oh, so you never heard of 40k? Well, see here, I will show you some people in it. Here we have a big bald man with an unfitting armour. For some reason we dig these. This is your average soldier, they look like they are from WW2 but they are not! These guys are heretics. These guys are a little like the other big bald men in unfitting armour, but they like blood, rot, brains or pus. Some dinosaur-bugs... These guys are communist anime-fish with a lot of shooty missiles. That one is an orc but a little different. That's a space elf! That's also a space elf! These are ancient egyptian robotic mummies. Some space nuns..." Uhm. My point (probably) was, that there are a lot of choices for people to have, no matter how they find their way in. And with the amount of different 40k stuff there are, from books to video games, RPGs to movies, it isn't that unknown either.
im confused by this post this post is hilarious. and im trying to come up with ways to get people interested in 40k, not bash on it. also, just because you think space marines look stupid doesn't mean everybody does. it also doesn't mean you can bash and hate on them.
Go to a large tournament, and it will be full of noise and sweat. Seriously. I know ^^ I tried to bash the other factions a bit too by either making them sound weird (dinosaur-bug) or putting a lot of words together (see tau and necrons) or simply by ignoring them a bit (space nuns...) And the most popular faction of course has to get the most
I can't seem to get people to like it so this thread interests me. Those who like it keep liking it. Those who aren't into it don't change their opinions much. I've managed to improve some people's views on 40k by going into detail about the more interesting stuff : the other races, chapters and their specific traits , their flaws , their way of fighting , how the ships work , how old fluff has them work, how newer lore has them work , the machanicum etc. etc. It seems that first impressions of 40k for most people come from pictures and the most popular currently game. And since most of the time they see giant guys in power armor they seem to think that is all the setting is all about. This seems to turn off my circle of friends and it's hard to make them look twice at things. (this is mainly about games and lore for me , TT 40k doesn't exist where I live)
Essentially true. Video games and cool artwork are IMO two of the most influential things when coming to a new genre/setting.
People that like 40k have an "inner warrior". We like the concept of a universe on the brink of collapse and the brutality of war. We like the concept of a lone warrior standing his ground against all odds. There's something in 40k that compels us to reach for the "romantic quest" that our soul/spirit/inner self (whichever you believe) seeks. There are a lot of people in the world that refuse to connect with their identity and just "float" along swayed by popular media or whatever impulses that are conjured by their social circle. To get someone to fall in love with 40k you have to open their eyes to the fact that they struggle and go to war every day inside themselves. Once you get an individual to embrace that they are a warrior fighting to be a better model of themselves.. then they might have a chance of embracing the true beauty and richness of 40k. It's pointless to present the universe to anyone who cannot connect with their imagination or the concept of the romantic quest. And there are always those people who just don't like grim dark and prefer the brighter fantasy.
Kay. So if this game is gona be partly ftp, so there is gona be hordes of people passing through just to look "Wut do we have 'ere". So maaaby, just maby by putting a little bit of lore (the most catching parts of it) here and there in the game, could get people interested. It could be a little references about some conflicts that took place, or heroes and thing's they've done. Like discriptions on some weapons, or gear, or vegicle. Or some other ways. Maby there should be some references about the books that've been writen about wh40k univerce, because i thing they are the most intetresting source of lore. And they are getting you deep in to the univerce. (I did all i could do get my idea straight with my poor english =D)
