Melee

  1. Actually, considering how space marines gameplay worked both in campaign and multiplayer, adding block would'n't done much for the game, since its supposed to be fast paced.

If you think of just basic attack, heavy attack, then yeah, but all things considered, what made space marine good was the flow and movement, which EC lacks.
EC's attack animations seem to be multiple different animations stacked into one rather than SM's where it was one long animation with cuts in it so when you clicked you'd make the first part of the animation etc etc. That's kinda why EC's combat feels so bad. With EC's assault.. well... its just bad in general, comparing EC's assaults to SM, you can see they are similar, but SM was far better in every way. Thing is, with SM, you could escape the assault and fight back if they did land on you, with EC you cant, but if they do miss, then they die instantly.
EC still doesn't have blocking in as far as I'm aware so I have no idea how its actually going to work, currently its just a bad lockon system and heavy attack which no one seems to know how it works.

Here is some witcher gameplay to show you what I mean with the soft lock system.
Basically if you attack in a general direction towards an enemy, you move towards that enemy when you attack. With the same system you can block in that direction without any cam locking or anything like that. Of course W3 has a lot of other bits and pieces, but its just those 2 that I see could be added into EC.
Of course, you'd have to experiment with it and make adjustments for it to work well.
That to me is just a far better way of going about melee instead of the cam lock system currently in place that requires a hard lock to actually work.
Also W3 attack animations would be good for Eldar.

I dont really think we've seen enough of for honors system to say EC could work with it tbh, especially since FH is a 5v5 game.
I guess it would be similar with those changes, but it would be far worse in the game's current state. If they want to go for cam locked, than they need to make a hell of a lot of adjustments for it to work well, currently its just a mess that doesn't appear to be getting any better any time soon.

I haven't played Nosgoth in a while and I cant really get a good understanding of it from gameplay videos so I'll just skip that.

Like, if they want a cam lock so bad, I'd say doing more of a faster paced M&B while using the system from Vermintide would do a far better job, only problem is animations and that would be terrible.

All I want is a system that feels like it'll actually work, EC's doesn't feel like it'll ever work right.

    EDIT:
Playing it now, I can see that every delay with all attacks, like the delay when you attack first and inbetween attack animations, needs to be removed all together.

Block doesn't work with free camera, unless you have a lock-on system, if it worked, Relic would've implemented it.
Mount and blade and chivalry have free look block. I'm sure there are more examples. Even Jedi Academy had a sort of blocking system and directional attacks.
  3. I... dont think you understood what he meant.
Blocking with a free camera is like attacking left while your camera is facing forward, and being able to block with your character still facing left.
uhh... look up Witcher3 gameplay on it.

Not that the rest of your post doesn't matter, but Relic didn't implement a significant amount of things it had intended to add to the game. Was block one of those things? Who knows. One such feature was actually a ground only melee assault unit, like the Chaos Champions from the last level of Exterminatus (The Iron Halo wearing Thunder Hammer toting melee monsters) and scattered around the campaign. That, and the amount of things they didn't really iron out by the time it got released is pretty indicative that they ran out of time to do everything they wanted.
  5. Comparing the early gameplay footage of space marine with what it currently is, they removed a lot of stuff.

Exactly. A friend of mine described how originally SM was going to be a single player RPG like game on the level of Darksiders since that's the technology they were trading with Vigil at the time... I mean DMO is quite literally an evolution of both SM and Darksiders mashed together.

  7. I'd say DMO is on another level entirely.

I said an evolution. I didn't say where that evolution went to.... a lot of evolution's lead to extinction..

I'm just worried Melee will end up being impractical and Ranged prefered. Like end up being a Jumppack suicide charge option or something and not much more.

As of now, I can't imagine Eternal Crusade with Melee incorporated so well, I could take on a Power Klaw and nothing else and still actually gain kills with skill involved.

I don't know if I'm explaining it bad.. Kinda feels like I am. Any of you guys know what I mean?
Not to compare this game in any way to it, yet only the aspect of Melee in Planetside. I'm afraid melee in this game will turn into something just a little more then that. With ranged combat clearly dominating the battlefields.
What really confuses me, is how would a individual that has detached his Jumppack, but still went for Melee focus fare on the battle? I think everyone would just be able to dodge much faster and shoot one, while the melee would be redundant because you can't reach anyone if they already spotted you.

I don't know, I may be thinking in the wrong direction.

I liked SM's combat. I prefer melee (If you haven't realised that by now.) and I enjoyed it in Space Marine PVP. But it was an Arena after all. I always saw Assaults as Suicide Marines that could have a short life span or long. Jumppack being the vital thing keeping this melee focused warrior alive. I just don't think a SM with the territories and that shit planned for EC would work - The combat atleast.
It was good though, simple and efficient and fitting for the game itself.

I'm pretty much going to be focusing on a Melee-orientated Ork with no Rokkit Pakk. Though I'll get additional points for more Defence and/or other attributes, I'm worried.

Witcher 3's soft block is basically what they're doing with the "klanging melee revamp" right now. Who knows? Maybe one day you will get your free camera melee, depends on how many people asking for it, they finally removed the active block after 2 years of sticking to it. I'm fine with either to be honest, cuz the current camera view is exactly like Nosgoth, you can't really do a crazy melee attack like jumping down and killing everyone in your vicinity with it, you have to choose your target, take him down, then take cover and choose a new one. You can see this clearly in the videos Demetri made, trying to doing 360 attack with EC is impossible.

On the other hand, the animation really needs work, like you said, if Assaults miss, they die, which means the animation locks them down too much, melee attack animation really needs to be smoother and not feels sluggish.

P.S: Never actually like Witcher's melee to be honest, at least for a PVE game. Far prefer Batman's and Shadow of Mordor's one. But probably just a matter of taste though.
