It seems whenever I get in a melee engagement one of three things happen We start smashing against each other and I get stunned because ?????? and am rendered helpless. I get hit with a light attack and I can no longer perform any actions until my inevitable death. I decide to give the bash a chance again and the enemy thanks me for standing still by light attacking me to pieces. I find myself at a loss and I don't know what I'm doing so wrong.
Getting stunned can be the result of a number of things. A successful defensive bash, an assault marine ground-pund, a heavy attack, etc. Sometimes power/force weapons make a mockery of the already very low TTK, which explains the insta-deaths you're getting. They seriously need to buff overall survivability. The defensive bash doesn't always work (because alpha). Give it a couple days, if you still can't figure it out just remember this: When in doubt, shoot them in the face. When not in doubt, get in doubt.
Frankly this is certainly the most slow and confusing melee system I've used, and I've used a few : dark soul, space marine, chivalry, nosgoth, dying light for the most recent. Though I remember the dev team stated dark soul, chivalry and space marine as their major inspirations for their melee system, I really failed to find it as enjoyable as those great titles, if not enjoyable at all...
I deal with the some issue. The melee system is somewhat confusing as to why certain things happen. But remember this is alpha, I am sure there will be a lot of changes to melee to create a better system.
pro tip: squat. someone attack you in melee? press c he will probally miss you, it's better than rolling
While this does happen I was referring more to getting hit with one light attack and then being seemingly stun locked by the followup until the inevitable happens
Shhhh.. Giving away pro tips lol. Also it funny to hit C, then kill them by shooting them in the knee cap. It is hilarious.
Funny thing is if you're sprinting melee users can't catch up to you (storm shield). Also bait defensive bash (both mouse buttons) until the devs decide to balance it, you can stunlock players using defensive bash then doing charged strikes with any weapon, including guns. If a melee user is rushing you, backpedal and shoot him, and as he's doing a swing, dodge/roll backwards and you won't get hit plus you gain distance since melee is rigid and static. You can also regain health using a melee weapon to hit enemy vehicles. I'm going to find whoever made the melee mechanics.....
