For those of you who read/see the State of the Crusade or the Road to the Open World or anything else showing the Eternal Crusade continent of Malcadia and the improper math saying a single territory, at 2kmx3km, would be 1/4th the size of a Planetside 2 continent, which is 8kmx8km, please be aware that math is wrong.

When counting surface area, you do not take a single side of the area and use that for it's measurement. A 2kmx3km area is not 2 square kilometers, it is 6. An 8kmx8km area is not 8 square kilometers, it is 64.

    64 divided by 6 equals 10.666666667.

A single territory of Malcadia, containing 3 Outposts and 1 Stronghold(remember this is a stretch goal, not a FA/FB or even launch goal), is only 1/10.67th of a Planetside 2 continent, not 1/4th.

Hopefully this will get stickied so everyone can read it and I will not have to keep correcting every single person that brings up the Malcadia continent.

    tl:dr
An EC territory is only 1/10.67th of a PS2 continent, not 1/4th.

You are right. Too many 8s. Then again, it is the best number in existence.

well ... the SOTC gives a few numbers

the first being the continent Malcadia is
but its cut into instances ... lots of instances

at launch the actual map sizes for each individualy instanced outpost/stronghold is unclear but probably less then 1km X 1km since their plan post-launch is to group a "territory" (3 outposts and a stronghold) into a single instance which would be about ...
and then at some point in the future (they suggest a year after they make territories a single instance) to then ...

From Planetside 2 wikia Esamir page: "Esamir is a continent featuring icy tundra terrain and only 20 small outposts compared to the 52 on Indar" Further down the page it lists the bases/facilities on the continent which is only 17 small outposts (<_<?) + 6 Large Outposts, 3 AMP Stations, 3 Bio Labs, 1 tech Plant - 30 total. Note that Amp Stations, Bio Labs & Tech Plants can have outlying smaller bases not on the list. Such as Ymir Bio Lab at the bottom right corner (the circular structure on the first map) with 5 (1 main and 5 outlying in a + pattern). Also Elli Amp Station which has a Small Outpost + a large Outpost (Vehicle Tower). Zoomed in views of each base can be seen by clicking their names in the list here.

Map Terrain & Territories + screenshot of the map showing lattice link (lattice=what territories link to which for indication of what can be taken/defended): A lot of empty space + space not even used around the edges. Largely flat tundra with few mountains and hills.

Eternal Crusade's Planet Arkhona, continent Malcadia
Each territory has 1 big base with 3 outlying bases. On that map there are 28 territories each with 4 bases (1 big dot (Fortress) + 3 outlying dots (Strongholds?/Outposts?); Don't know if the dots will have outlying bases themselves). 28 x 4 = 112. Where are the 8+ others to make 120+? A mistake in making this concept mockup? Or are overflow maps being included in that count? Which aren't indicated. PvE engagement areas will be locations too but separate from the surface continent, of course they are not indicated either.

Malcadia Concept art shown in stream detailing the plan to open world (found in this thread here, thanks Grigdusher).
Map Terrain & Territories: Some empty space with more mountains & hills.

Why don't these things have a way to measure the distance on them?. Oh wait. It's not needed to blast people. Okay carry on.

my attempt in putting a 1km by 1km (approximate) grid on the continent to help us determine the square km of each territory

i forgot indar was so small. oh i just realised the map is upside down from how i remember it in beta

Edited my post to take into account the estimated 2kmx3km size of a territory.

2km by 3km isn't very accurate if the smallest territory is almost 5km square and the biggest almost 15km square

Well, we already know they can't maths, so...
