I must agree with this. In WoW legendary weapon was standard for everyone on max level. How this weapon can be legendary then? Only games where you can see true legendary and unique weapons are games with full loot and only few pieces of the said equipment.
The problem is that everybody wants to have the unique weapon in the end...the only way around would be to craft your own unique weapon or let it crafted by a master artificer or techmarine. And even than they always want to have the perfect stats. I would like a concept of a game where not everybody can get everything (like in real life). If you want to have this fancy master crafted powerfist with inbuilt stormbolter, than you have to be a captain and damn well earned that! But I can already hear the masses whining and crying and rolling on the floor like 4 year old kids!
lol ... if you want to be the "special snowflake" thats got the best toys then MMO isnt the genre for you, that type of mentality is properly serviced by the Single Player gaming industry, MMO is about lots of people having the best toys or you lose the Massive part of MMO because most people arnt interested in spending their cash or their time playing "second fiddle" with a pocket knife while someone else runs about lording it over them with a claymore
Actually for me I don't care. I don't have run around with the ultimate absolutely maxed load out, i can have errors in my skill tree and don't need to read the ultimate guide which gives you no freedoms and is just following the steps of some random guy in the internet who found out to achieve the best of the best in the mmo. To be honest I hate that. But some people love it. So I don't mind If I will never have the best gear or the optimal loadout at least I have fun and freedom and might still shoot the bastard with the crazy maxed gear in the ass when he is not looking And you are right MMO's are definitely not my type of game and I avoided them where ever I could. 99% of games I play are coop, but not MMO. However, here I am now because 40k leads the way for me and I am going where 40k is going trapped by its alluring call like being called by a siren....
well to be honest Nemiel .. EC is looking less like a classic MMO these days anyway and more like every other TPS on the market ... thats why the term MMOTPS is being thrown about to describe it, but unless they crack the "open world" problem then while its still technically true to use the term MMO to describe EC its really far more like the "lobby shooter" genre regardless of the instanced maps population capacities
Yeah I hope that everybody can find their niche and enjoy the game how they prefer most. It's just tough for the Devs to mix this conglomerate of different play styles and please everybody...its almost impossible. But (and back to topic ) I hope there will be a long-term motivation driving everybody to keep this game alive once it's launched! *goes over to the grave of the Space Marine game - puts down some flowers - gets lost in nostalgia of 400h fighting exciting seize ground skirmishes*
I played Age of Conan for over two years and the worst thing that happened to that game in my opinion was itemization. At one point, gear didn't really matter much as the character held probably 90% of the power. my Tempest of Set that was lvl 80, was wearing a lvl 32 hat because it looked cool. Then they went and changed the game massively where probably 70% of the characters power was in the gear. Then it just became a grind for better gear. Awesome game until they did that. I hope in EC, gear isn't the deciding factor, and I believe it isn't going to be. The reason games make gear so important is to create time sinks. I don't want a time sink, I want to spend my time having fun. Unfortunately, a lot of people want a bigger, darker carrot, and when they get that, then there is a bigger darkerer carrot... and so on. I hope this game is just fun and while you can get say a different looking weapon or armor, it is mainly the player and their choices that make the most difference in game play. If they make it a grind to get gear just to be relevant on the battlefield, then I will probably quit.
