Hello everyone! I am Chapter Master Lias Issodon, Of the Raptors. Some of you may have seen me on Arkhona, and have no doubt been amazed at my ability to purge traitors of our glorious man emperor with devastatingly accurate salvos of stalker-fire. I've made this helpful short guide to assist my fellow battle brothers in learning the finer points of Marksmanship, such that my chapter is famous for. Anyone is welcome to learn from us on this thread, and post their own advice for initiates, so feel free to read and discuss! Starting Out Pick up your Stalker Bolter... Okay, now press the X key to cycle your bolter to the Single-shot mode. You will want to use this mode exclusively, as tap-firing in this mode can kill enemies faster than the burst mode. In addition to faster kills, you have far more control of where all of your bolts land, which is what we are here for. Target Switching and Finding Okay, to start out, here's a quick lesson in getting good at shooting people. You first need to get used to a high sensitivity. Not too high, but fast enough that you can react to things, and still be able to make precise movements. Try picking a wall in the game, and finding two spots on that wall. Now try to move your reticle onto each of those two spots as fast as you can, without overshooting them. If you pass over them, you need to start over, and just keep at it until you can very quickly switch targets. When you feel comfortable, find the nearest chaos havoc, and practice it on him, and just keep getting more practice. Now adjust your sensitivity. With these exercises, it's important to set your sensitivity has high as it can possibly go, before you lose the ability to accurately hit a new target. Higher sensitivity means better reaction times, which can make the difference between life or death when engaging in a high-stakes sniper duel, or when holding the line. Self Movement Adjusts But of course, this is for stationary targets. Now say you have a bead on someone 70 meters away. You're plinking away at him, but he's noticed, and now wants to move to cover. Now you want to start moving your body in the same direction he's going. If he's not sprinting, then this will be easy. Keep your reticle on him, and use your body movement to match to his own movements. Unless he's doing anything too complicated like dodge rolling or using a jump pack, you'll quickly find that you hardly need to do any work to continue hitting him. Practice this on Chaos Tacticals until you get the hang of it. Movement Tracking Alright, now that you've gotten down the Self-Movement method, you'll find that it doesn't always work. Sometimes you need to stay in one spot to maintain your godlike position. Or your prey is doing something more complicated like sprinting. In this case, you will need to watch their movements. Find out which direction they're going, and start moving your crosshair in that direction. When your bolter is traveling in his path, slowly adjust your tracking speed until it matches the speed the prey is traveling. Once you have mated your speed to his, use a very short body shift to move your crosshair onto his body, and begin firing. The prey should quickly find that jinking no longer avails them! Unfortunately, this method is quite advanced, and cannot be practiced on stationary targets. You'll have to go out into the wilds of Arkhona to find live prey, preferably in the form of disgusting traitors. Keep practicing this, and eventually you should start trying to combine self-movements with panning speeds to more quickly acquire targets. Your goal with this exercise is to obtain a bead on the target as fast as possible by the standards of Astartes!
You forgot the biggest tip of all... live close to the damned server or your bullets will be worthless
The most important piece of advice there is switching your Stalker Bolter to single fire. Another important part is to learn good positions on every map and change them if you feel like your enemies want to kill you. Granted, Stalker Bolter is actually better than normal Bolter, even in close ranges, so if someone does try to sneak up on you there is a good chance that you will kill them.
