Ps2 is about it, not really into gaming, but the idea is that each legion brings a different element of warfare to battle making a balanced game, its not like all the IW will attack alone with only IW
Exactly. I want my Night Lord to be substantially different from an Iron Warrior, or a Word Bearer. If everyone's playing the exact same thing, it takes the fun out of the game.
I don't see how it's "exactly". It depends on what the other racial powers are for the other factions. The Blood Angels burning their "black rage" racial isn't going to help much against an army that will just cut them down as they run across the field to get into close combat especially if they can't get any bonuses from cover. They'll just die angry. then you run into the hurdle of factions having racials designed specifically to counter another faction which will just create the above scenario of "We are facing X faction, if you aren't Y faction you aren't invited" type of gameplay. Fluffy game play looks good on paper, but it doesn't translate well to gameplay.
From the very FAQ (this info existed in the previous one as well, and around the forums too): Although we are investigating a system to prevent truly huge faction imbalances (51%+), in general we are not going to force faction balance. In fact, we don’t think of this as a four-sided game, but potentially an infinite-sided one! Eternal Crusade is also a massive tactical war game so not every specialization will be equal when going toe to toe with each other – you should either bring friends to make up for your weaknesses or deploy your loadout in the circumstances that favour your specialty. So they arent shooting for overbalancing things anyways. Dont sweat over it too much. Brent has confirmed ages ago that they will do subfaction specific things and will look very carefully into not making one subfaction simply outright better than the other. ==Sub-Faction Abilities== It always bugs me in dungeon crawlers when there are four classes and four races, and there's an obvious Mage race, an obvious Fighter race, etc. The pressure is even greater for a PvP game, so I totally hear you when you say it would be lame if you felt like you had to be a Blood Angel to be an Assault marine. We're going to allow for unique weapons/accessories/statlines for the sub-factions, but we want to do everything we can to make sure they don't create this situation. Having very situation-specific powers is one potentially good solution. The plan, of course, is for you guys to be involved in giving us feedback for this once you get your hands on the game! http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/thr...ke-in-eternal-crusade.802/page-90#post-187201
I agree with this sentiment to an extent. Fluff does not necessarily mean good gameplay. That said, variety is important, and an easy way to keep things varied is by creating differences between the sub-factions. The FAQ about sub-faction abilities that Djemo posted above is pretty in line with my own opinions on the subject. So assuming the devs can keep any imbalances from becoming "truly huge" with these variations, I feel pretty good about the planned system for sub-factions.
He said Warsmith, not warpsmith. Warsmith's are Chaos Lords who have a Servo-Harness but still have access to all the goodies of the Daemonic weapons and such
That doesent lend itself to a whole different class, like the Warpsmith does.We will surely have Chaos Lords as heroes in every subfaction, they arent subfaction specific things. Im aware of the difference, but im pretty sure he meant Warp, not simply a Chaos Lord variation considering he didnt correct me himself.
I would love to play as a Dark Apostle. Hopefully we'd also get guys like Plague Marines if factions like the Death Guard come in.
He said Iron Warriors who are the only legion to have Warsmiths, Warpsmiths can be a part of any warband
