Partly to experiment with the name reservation thing. Also looking to the possibility of a 5th faction.
I see your point however I don't consider that guess work, I consider it an incomplete picture. There was no guess work in the founders volunteering information to the polls. However, when you attempt to quantify or extrapolate statistical data there is a certain amount of guess work (assumptions) that need to be taken. Assuming the population of the forums is current, assuming the % of the population who bought the founders package, and many others to come up with a feasable number. Again, just so we are on the same sheet of music, I believe to amount cash bE brought in is much higher and I think Miguel was quoting 2000 founders on the first day. So yeah I created the polls so that we could see a snap shot in time of the amount founders brought in. Of course as time goes on more and more the poll will in parallel to the founders purchase.
What do you mean with 'in parallel'? I'm concerned you mean the poll will "approach", will come to represent the number of actual founders and their expenses. I don't think that will ever be the case. A LOT of people whom play games never visit forums. Another LOT doesn't post on forums. Another LOT won't visit this thread. And another LOT will see this thread, but won't vote/post. Also, you mentioned Willzilla ticking every box: technically speaking, there is no proof people have bought what they claimed. Also, a few pages back now, I used the poll numbers to make some guesswork, from the numbers of bolters sold vs poll. TBH: I strongly suspect I still underestimate actual numbers: the 'silent' majority buying the $40 pack, and never posting about it in a thread. Guesswork indeed, but your 'incomplete picture' will never be complete either; and the "distribution" of 'this % of founders have bought X' may be quite far off too. Without Miguel/bE releasing figures, guesswork is what you have to do to reach an estimation, if you want to know 'how much money was dumped into founders day'. (I do get a somewhat warm and fuzzy feeling that I gave an example of 10% of forum, 2000 people, and Miguel apparently claiming 2000 founders first day . ) That puts the minimum expense at 80.000. About 200 bolters were sold first day IIRC, so that is 10% of population. Let's talk percentages: 35% take warrior, 30% take sarge, 20% take captain, 10% take heresy, 5% take Xenos, 15% take special weapon (bolters most sold, rest a few). That would be 2000*0.35*40 + 2000*0.30*80+ 2000*0.20*120+ 2000*0.10*250+ 2000*0.05*450+ 2000*0.15*35 = 229.500 Compared to the poll, those are again conservative (aim low) estimates (make "warrior" pack far more popular than in the poll), don't include things like 'big boss pack' or character slot, etc. And that is the low estimate for day 1. Again, I don't think your "pure" poll will ever approach that number in magnitude, sorry.
I really don't understand what you are trying to prove. You have said if many times that your estimates are guesswork. I completely agree. In parallel means to match a direction with a different location, and when graphing an equation it mean they will never intersect. It's really basic Algebra. I don't understand what your point is, I feel you are saying the same thing that I am for the most part but in a more convoluted and confusing way. I'll break it down and if you see anything you disagree with specifically then you can address it more precisely. 1) This is a poll to see how much HAS been put into the Founders Program. 2) People polling (with exception of Wraithy and Wiz) will have accurately given an amount that is now in the Devs pockets - real time. Its not an estimation. It is not a guess. This is real money that is really in the game right now. 3) The poll does not accurate portray what is in the Dev's pockets in totality because of this: However, we have a base number of founders (Y) and a base amount of money received (X). As more people buy founder packs the X & Y will increase with it, in parallel but never intersecting. 4) As the OP of this thread, my intentions of this thread was never to create a formula that estimates (read: guesswork) what was the actual number of profit from the founders package down to the last cent. My intentions was to get as much actual real time data from founders to see how much is "for sure" in the Dev's pockets knowing in the back of my head that this is a much lower number in reality. Therefore we can make a statement like: "With 3 months of Founder Package sales, you have grossed well over $314,000.00 … so why can't we have cinematic of Matt Ward being executed by Dark Eldar" or something to that effect. 5) If you are interested in finding your own data and creating a thread on building a formula that "approaches" the actual real number in their bank account down to the dollar, I suggest you do it on a separate thread seeing as we are looking for different results. I would gladly be the first one to post on it giving my information as a founder because I think its a great idea. But like I said, that is not what this thread is for. Please reply as I am interested in your thoughts. Thanks
planning for the sergeant or warrior pack but I really want those attack bikes and armor and weapons from rogue trader
Alrighty, algebraic parrallel. Okidoki. My thoughts? Well: "With 3 months of Founder Package sales, you have grossed well over $314,000.00 … so why can't we have cinematic of Matt Ward being executed by Dark Eldar" A most noble goal.. step plan: convince (/bribe) devs to: 1) make sure dark eldar become the 5th race/faction 2) Introduce a "Matt Ward" character. I propose Matheus Wardius, company captain of the Ultrasmurfs, whom shall have a coincidental but physically striking similarity to a certain person. 3) ??? 4) Epic man-tears of joy.
I'd suggest a "Matt Ward" character appear randomly anywhere on the map every few days, similiar to the way Gollum appears in the LOTD games bearing the ring and running for his life, with any and all players being given a map heading to his current location so we can hunt him down and kill him, the player achieving the kill recieving the temporary Title of "Galactic Hero" until the next time the "Matt Ward" spawns
