As long as the Bolter is strong enough to drop someone without flying through ammo but not strong enough to drop someone in one hit, I'm perfectly fine with it.

In my opinion, EC should follow the same rules the PnP & TT rules follow. There's armor, armor pen, toughness, strength, wounds, cover, range, lack of armor, location hit, armor values of certain spots, etc. Then damage is deducted or enhanced using any of the factors above.

I agree but we must remember that EC is a pvp game not pve and the word 'scenario' doesn't fit too much here. The battlefield will probably a quickly changing theatre like weather in the mountains thus it may be hard to catch up with your weapon load outs, the tanks or heavy infantry units can appear suddenly anywhere (especially if we'll have teleport and drop pod options), you won't be able to quickly run to the nearest base to change your gear according to the situation because you might be dead before you do it (unless changing of loadouts will be simplified 'on the run' option).

That's why I believe you'll need to have all types of classes with different weapons ready all the time coz you'll never know waht may pop out from around the corner - the devs said EC is going to be a DYNAMIC battlefield.

I wish the most often used weapon was bolter but let's be real, will you stick to bolter once you have the opportunity to use reaper autocannon :) ?

True, but the difference is a Space Marine can continue to function after taking a headshot that would totally incapacitate or kill a human. We're talking almost half of their head blown apart, skull/brain exposed kinda wounds.
Hell, some Marines can function for short time even after their entire head has exploded:

“Cython was still laughing when Hadius’s helmet exploded in a plume of blood and metal wreckage. It was a definitive kill, the only injury that could truly put down a Traitor Marine. Hadius’s body continued to move on muscle memory. He fired twice in a random direction, reloaded his bolter clip in one fluid motion, sank to his knees and died.”
    - Blood Gorgons, Pg. 65

Flamers usually don't do much to Astartes power armor:

“From somewhere a flamer unleashed a blaze of burning promethium, a gush of flaming orange liquid washed over him, but encased inside his armour he barely felt the intense heat.”
    - Imperial Armour Volume 7, Pg. 79

You'd be surprised. Space Marines are incredibly resilient due to their superhuman anatomy. There are many examples in the lore of Marines surviving wounds that would instantly kill any normal human several times over.

Having his vitals organs pulped from a Bolt detonation doesn't stop this Marine (his arm was chopped off seconds before too):

"With a backhand slap he knocked the plasma pistol from the sergeant’s hand, sending it spinning across the deck floor and planted the barrel of his bolt pistol against the White Consul’s chest plate, right over his primary heart. “See you in hell,” said Khalaxis, and he squeezed the trigger. It took three shots to penetrate the thick power armour and the bonded ribcage of the White Consul, but the fourth detonated within the warrior’s chest cavity, pulping the organs within. Still, the Consul was Astartes, and did not die. He continued to grapple with Khalaxis, who pounded his fist repeatedly into the White Consul’s helmet, shattering one lens and caving in his rebreather."

Are there any examples of a space marine surviving a direct lascannon or plasma cannon shot in the lore too?

Headshots killing with a single hit sound okay to me. I would say a 50% chance with certain weapons, and a higher one with sniper rifles etc.
Helmets to lower the odds (hmm how will the leaders be identified then??)

It should be rewarding to take the time and skill to shoot an enemy in a valuable location, I certainly want that it is appreciated.
But I don't want it to be so easy and OP that people aim ONLY at heads.

Only Marines protected by energy shielding or wearing Terminator armor have a decent chance at surviving a direct plasma/lascannon hit from what I've read. They are extremely powerful infantry weapons.
This is usually what a plasma weapon does to a Marine who is protected only by his typical power armor:

"The goblet falls from Luciel’s grip. His hand is already moving, through instinct alone, for his sidearm. Only sheer, disfunctioning shock is slowing him down. Tchure’s plasma pistol is already in his hand. The goblet hasn’t even hit the tabletop yet. Tchure fires.
Point blank, the plasma bolt strikes Honorius Luciel’s torso. The bolt is as hot as a main sequence star. It vaporises armour plate, carapace, reinforced bone, spinal cord. It annihilates meat, both hearts, and secondary organs. It turns blood into dust. The shot’s hammer blow impact knocks Luciel down, through the table, smashing the tabletop up to meet the falling goblet, spinning it into the air in a semi-circle of wine.
    ...
Luciel rolls on the deck, limbs thrashing, as the smashed table falls around him. The goblet bounces off the deck plate beside his head. His eyes are wide, straining, staring. The plasma shot has burned a massive hole clean through him. His body is cored. The deck plating is visible through his twitching torso. The edges of the gaping damage are scorched and cooked by superheating. His armour is likewise punctured, the cut edges glowing. Larraman cells cannot hope to clog or close a wound quite so catastrophic."
    - Know No Fear, Pg. 153

"Alpharius levelled his bolter and opened fire, cutting down the legionary with the flamer. His companion turned in surprise, weapon lifting towards Alpharius. Before he could fire, a ball of plasma screamed through the doorway, exploding against his left side, incinerating half of his body in an instant."
    - Deliverance Lost, Pg. 122

I don't have time to find lascannon quotes, but the results are about the same. One shot kills.

What exactly is hypervelocity? And how does such a round (bullet, projectile, w/e) once achieving that speed maintain enough energy to ricochet more than once? None of what you said here makes sense to me. You talking about the real world here? Or did you see this in some cartoon? movie? T.V. show?

  8. the bolter is almost never the most effective TBH...they are all rounders
heavy bolters are better vs masses of infantry and heavy infantry
    flamers are better vs infantry
plasma guns are better vs heavy infantry

    etc
thanks! i will look at that after im done with classes at 3.
  9. if its an instant kill it will be that OP.
and you will have people that get that good, which means the game starts depending more on individual skill than strategy and teamwork.
  10. see its this kind of thing that makes me think back to reality, and the fact that there is a reason we dont use swords and spears, even if "power weapons" any more. its more effective to just shoot point blank. It just doesnt make sense that a plasma weapon would be that potent, and have marines even remain relevant. they only have 1000 members to a chapter, dieing in droves, recruiting very slowly. But i digress....
