Implementation of NPC's

Maybe this idea has been expressed before i'm not sure. Also it's implementation would be extremely hard, as in it'll probably never be added, so keep that in mind.

Now, the idea is, for every race they have AI NPC troops running around. Just like Titanfall, these are useless troops that only add to the game by talking, fighting and dying. They don't stand a chance against players and they're there solely to make the game feel bigger.

For Space Marines, the AI would be Imperial Guard.
For Chaos, the AI would be Cultists.
For Orks, the AI would be Ork boyz.
For Eldar, the AI would be Guardians.

Again, these AI would be in the game, simply to make the battles feel much bigger, they would only be able to kill each other, yet they'd never be able to kill a player. This also gives players something else to shoot at, granting you 10exp or something like that.

They would really only be useful on bigger maps (30 v 30). They may not do so well on smaller maps. However, assuming this is even possible (which it is, but it'll take a LONG time and would be hard coding the AI, at least I think) the main problem with their inclusion would be such.
    A. Most likely the servers would not be able to handle this, and considering the game is not well optimised in it's current state.
    B. Some players (like myself) can't run this game very well even on the lowest of graphic settings, and for other players the game is very laggy. This would only further make the game laggy from the amount of stuff going on or because people with bad connection will have it even worse.
    C. Distraction, they would need to be MUCH smaller than the player's. This is easy for SM/CSM/Orks, however Eldar would be a problem.
    D. Again, Eldar. They are the same size (which the AI would might need to be shortened down for game play purposes).

That's really all on the top of my head, believe me the inclusion of NPCs would bring many problems i'm assuming. On top of that, it'd be near impossible to do it, or at least take a long time with a lot of effort being put in for NPC's that may end up broken.

Watch this clip to see how Titanfall did it, and keep in mind that game was 6 v 6, yet by adding so many NPCs they managed to make the game feel bigger than what it really was.

In short, they would be there to make the battle feel MUCH bigger, they would talk about the battle and talk about how awesome the players are (cause you're literally superior to them in war), give you some extra points when you gun down groups of the NPCs.

The point of this thread is to at least touch on that the inclusion of allied NPCs which could make the game more enjoyable. Although I'm sure it would be hard to implement (Again, I can't stress this enough, this will probably never happen, and if it could it would take a very long time), some maps could not have them for gameplay reasons, however I see that NPCs fighting each other and filling up and somewhat interacting with the world would add to the game.

Wow this idea is genious. Why did nobody think of that before?

There will be no AI bots on pvp maps.

Titanfall isn't really 20v20 or 30v30 game, so they actually HAVE to fill the maps for you to not feel alone.

Bots in PvP games are pointless, completely, utterly pointless.

In case its not sarcasm, someone did, idea was terrible back then and is terrible now as each AI takes away player spot for match performance+requires devs to create extremely complicated AI that add nothing to the game over additional players in match.

yes there is something like 12695 topics whit the same idea and the answer is always the same: an npc need resources similar to a player so it's better to add more players instead of adds more npc

Thought so, but one can never be fully sure on the ynterwebz

Yesterday when I was playing Orks, I actually wondered where all the grots were.

Ofc I know they are not in the game, but it suddenly felt rather odd to play a 40k game as orks and not have the whiny comic relief grots anywhere in sight. They are sort of integral to the orks as a faction.

NPC's have been talked about before I know by devs. Though don't expect it any time Soon™. I'd say 3 years at least if at all.
  9. Plz don't make this game into a shit MOBA like DOTA

There was much talk about AI in the early phases of the game actually. They said it would cost a lot of performance and they couldn't do it.

EDIT: At best they were thinking about something in the Garrison, but thats about it. No mention of actual NPC that talk in instances either.
