As the Vertibird landed Arthor gulped and jumped out at the same time as Pool. His eyes had also adjusted during the ride though that didn't help him as he stared at his new informant with mixture of wonder and terror. "Its a lot bigger out here than I had imagined." He said out loud, he had been out a few times to assist in field repairs but he had never been this far from the tower or this deep in the ruins. He brought up his shotgun and took the safety off and cocked the gun sliding a round into the chamber. He the made sure he had everything which he did though he made sure about 5 times before he stopped himself. When the rocks fell and B4Rk began well barking at them he turned and aimed his gun. Though the motion was more like him jerking his arms in the general direction of the sound and then the rest of is body followed. He didn't start shaking like some would expect but he was still very nervous.
When the Vertibird touched down, Jace have a casual salute to Gamma, his attention mainly on the lieutenant, "Try not to be to crazy kids, and curfew is at 11 sharp!" With that he jumped off behind Pool and Arthur, his demeanor a bit more serious now. Activating his scope he began a sweep across the area trying to pick out anything hostile. Which was everything out here. When the rock fell he swung his laser rifle to the source of the noise, ready for whatever was to come out. After a moment he seemed satisfied and loosely held his rifle as he took a deep breath. It had been far to long since he had breathed something rather than that stagnant air in the tower. He let it fill his lungs, let the sun beat against his skin. Home. That was what this place was to him He couldn't help but laugh at Stone and Pool, who seemed to have a rough time adjusting to the wastes. "Ain't it the most beautiful thing." He said in a poetic tone, sweeping his hand towards all the ruins and dead vegetation.
"Barren, deserted and no trace of it's former glory. Beautiful isn't the word I'd use." Any humour Jace had used was lost on Pool who'd changed his outlook now he was in hostile lands which by rights should be the Enclave's land. Savages squatted in lands which should have been cleansed long ago with America's reconstruction already underway.
Jenkins hold his assult rifle with his left hand, strap over the same shoulder, while he used his right to look through his binoculars. The Village of Lake Bluffwas just outside the Chicago Metropolitan area, so there were fewer demolished large buildings, but there were small houses. Those seen in old holotapes and book about the back when times. It was a place a family could live away from the city, but still have easy access to it. The Great Lake of Michigan dominated the scenery. It was asource of fresh water, thurned green and irradiated by the Great War. Still years away from being clean enough to drink, but with the right tech and hard work the process could be expedited. 'I hope we meet some people who don't want to kill us.' Sergeant Jenkins thought to himself before looking back to Delta Squad. Bark and Stone had noticed something and Pool and South were fighting over aesthetics. @Jorimel @Vulpas Ruby was sticking back with Hester, both making up the Science Part of their team and for this mission MVPs for it's success. Eagle was quiet, this was normal, but still the first time Jenkins had the please outside of the Tower. 'I thought he'd be as happy as Southwind to be back out here?' @Valonox "Eagle, check in. Check out what's Got B4RK so worked up." @dx144 @Keidivh "We can debate the scenery later, be ready to move out you two. Can't stay in the open much longer. No telling what we're going to spot first... Or the other way around. I hear Bugs aren't so little anymore." @GobMaw_HellSmasha @TuskatheDaemonKilla Another rock shaped piece of building fell from the once two story structure. Maybe it was a home or an office, or even a theater before the great war. It didn't really matter any more. Like almost everything else in the wasteland, it was a tomb. More rocks fell as something moved from within, a lot of somethings. Rotting flesh from bone, deformed limbs bent into clawed hands, and jaws open as they moaned in horrible rasps. First No one knew who called it first, but everyone knew what they were; "GHOULS!" (Ghoul Pack Attack! One ghoul has appeared from the ruins and more are on the way. Each character has the power to kill a ghoul, but how you do it is up to you! Shoot them, beat them, stab them? Any way you choose can lead to a different outcome. Good luck!)
[Hostile Lifeform Detected: Engaging Combat Protocols] played over Bark's translator. The Enclave had enough data on Feral Ghouls to immediately write them off as actively hostile 100% of the time. As a result, Cyberdog units were given programming to recognize feral ghouls by sight and sound. Bark was so poor at either of those things that the ghoul had to be pretty much right in front of him for the recognition to kick in. [Sonic Bark Weapon: Warming Up] the translator stated. Though regarding the distance between the feral ghoul and Bark, the sonic bark wouldn't have warmed up fast enough for him to use before the ghoul would be right on top of him. So Bark went with a dog's primary weapon of choice: Their teeth. Spoiler: OOC Biting the Feral Ghoul. Melee attacks don't really have targeting in VATS. And I'm going with the idea that biting someone is a melee attack.
Ruby had been taking everything in, in a sort of daze. Part of her was still processing the idea that she'd wanted to punch that stupid Peacekeeper square in the face for hurting Bark. It wasn't as if the silly mutt could help himself! She hadn't of course, but she'd wanted to and this strange and stunning fact kept the normally cheerful Nurse quiet all the way to the Vertibird, save for a couple of professionally executed salutes and an introduction. Lieutenant Kimberly seemed like the kind of person you'd want in command. Outside at last! It was breathtaking. All right, so the strange scents would take some getting used to. And the sun was warm, just like she'd always imagined it from watching old movies. Being black and white, they hadn't prepared her for any of the colours. Sure, some things were falling down, and others were overgrown, and a few just didn't look right. But Jace was right, in a way. It was all beautiful. And it was up to them, to Delta Squad, to protect it. Ruby's reverie was cut short by feral snarling and barking that didn't belong to their cybermastiff. Ghouls! She quickly brought her attention into focus. "Hester!" she hissed. "I'll distract one, you shoot it!" And with this she prepared to throw a rock at one of the ghouls, hoping to draw its attention from the main mass and maybe even split the horde a little. If she could get a good throw and hit something important, even better. But once she was done distracting she was going to shoot as well. This was no drill, it was suddenly very real and she had to make her shot count. Shying a rock to get the attention of one or more ghouls away from the pack, shooting. Hoping Hester will as well. Divide and conquer?
Joseph smelled the air 'Ah it is good to be outside again.' Then the order came in he jogged to dog then the ghouls hit he pulled his rifle and took two shot on the closest he didn't want to get in close with these damn things they took some of his old squad members apart. (Two shots on the closest ghoul\)
Arthor stumbled when the ghouls emerged he nearly fell backwards when one of the ghouls charged him. Though he was able to keep his footing the ghoul had gotten closer and was about to reach him when Arthor brough up his shotgun. "It's not human, it's not human." He said to himself as he aimed the gun at the ghoul's head he hands weren't shaking but he still found it difficult to aim and pull the trigger until finally the thing got too close and Arthor squeezed the trigger. The ghouls head exploded from the short range shot and it's already decayed tissue. At this moment Arthor nearly threw up but realized there were more and reacted by keeping the shotgun up and trying to hold back the vomit.
Jace was going to respond to Pool when he heard feral growls and gasps. This was one part of the wasteland that wasn't so pretty. He could barely hide the disgust that he felt seeing their rotten, peeling skin. With ease and precision he brought up his laser rifle, taking aim at their heads because... Well, zombies right? Before he pulled the trigger he recalled a lesson from his dad, one of many on how to survive the wastes. All right son, nwo I know everyone thinks that zombies are slow, and can only be killed with headshots. Well all that's bullshit, they're fast as hell, and they die if they get shot enough anywhere. Aim for the legs, or they'll shred your ass. Heeding dear old dads advice, he lowered his rigle and unleashed a hail of concentrated laser beams towards the ghouls knees and legs. "Cripple these rotting shites!"
The first Ghoul to emerge from the rubble wore only torn pants and rags, its eyes glossy white and unblinking. Bark's attack caused the it to fall over, incapacitated by the Cyberhounds strong jaws. This did have the unfortunate effect of causing the Ghoul to shriek, attracting the attention of the rest of the pack. Two more Ghouls crawled from the ruins, while another three ran from around the other side of the ruins. All in the same tattered clothes and in varrying states of decay. Not going to the aid of the ghoul being mauled, instead they made a mad dash towards the other Delta Squad members. One of the ghouls, a shirtless dreg with previous bullet wounds, was hit square in the head causing it to stagger. While the rest pressed on, it turned to find what had hit it. Sniffing the air, eyes squinting to the point of closed, then dashing towards the Medic Lee. Clawed hands bared and ready to take a swipe at her. Hester is not slow on the uptake, her laser pistol aimed and ready. She squeezes the trigger, releasing the deadly beam into the Ghoul's chest. It shrugs this first attack off with mild discomfort. Then another blast hits its shoulder and another rips into its chest again. Until it could take no more and explodes into a Pile of ash. OOC: Good team work! I'll be boting Hester until vulpes is back. Outrider Eagle manages to take down the lead charger. Causing it to fall mid stride. Rather than slow down the two behind it, they merely treaded on their fallen or simply jumped over it. The jumping ghoul pressed on towards Joseph. It slams into him at top speed, practically falling upon the Enclave Soldier. The only thing stand between Eagle and the Ghoul is his raised weapon. All the while, the Ghoul thrashes and claws at Joseph's armor and face trying to gain purchase and pull him closer to its snapping mouth. Missing teeth could be seen and its decaying breath smelled just as vivid. @dx144 Private Pool was closest to Eagle and could seem him struggling. His options were shoot the ghoul and risk hurting a Squadmate or physically remove the Ghoul from atop him and killing it im close range. Time was sort, all this commotion could attract more or worse, and the moment to act was now! "Nice shot Stone!" Sargeant Jenkins says after witnessing him dispatch the charging Feral. "To think humans can be exposed to such levels of radiation and become these mutant things." The sarge motions towards the headless Ghoul corpse. "Luckily these ain't the zombies in the holovids... Just in case." Jenkins says before shooting the Ghoul corpse again for good messure. "Let's finishing this Delta!" The last Ghoul of the bunch is cut down by South's well placed laser fire, its right leg completely amputated from the rest of its body. First trying to rise back to it's left leg, only for it to give out. Having received a fair amount of damage. Instead, the Ghoul opted to crawl as best it could away. Some remnant of sense finally taking hold of it, that old flight or fight. Fight was no longer an option so instinct decreed to run away. It wouldn't get far... Or will it? (Optional: Let it go or finish it off?)
