According to me they are the coolest race. I havent played tabletop only dow games and im a big fan of wh fantasy. I pick eldar because they seem to be intelligent and at the same time formidable warriors i like the underdog and dying race idea they know how to inflict dmg with just a handful of men they are swift and smart and they are the all knowing race. Much like the elves of lord of the rings. I will show the mon'keigh the might of our kindred, they underrestimate us. Eldar and Dark Eldar unite! We will strike hard, swift and efficiently. Ambush, espionage, and knowing when and where to strike will be our traits.
same than above , didn't play the tabletop and i was introduced to Warhammer 40k with Dow. At first i was young and foolish and though :"Oh my days , they really seem squishy , what is this heresy ?!" latter on when i played dow again i said "Oh well i don't quite remember the ...uuuuuuuuh ...the..... the eldars! ok let's pick them" i found their playstyle entertaining and since then they became my most favourite race , i played more and more eldar , read things about them , picked them first in retribution and there i am , declaring that i shall sacrifice myself for our favorite race in this brutal Game!
I chose the Eldar because of Aesthetics, and I stay with them because of lore, aesthetics, playstyle, psychic powers... I quite simply love the Eldar race
I was introduced to Warhammer 40K about 14 years ago maybe. And it was not a board game or any game. My friend showed me his collection (pretty huge one) of the Warhammer FB and 40K artworks. I was totally swept away by the flood of new impressions. This kind of grim-dark feel was something special to me. While FB was pretty spectacular too, most of my attention was given to 40K, as I am a sci-fi type myself. I haven't really payed much attention to Eldar back then, partially because there were not much of their art at my disposal. Back then all I had of Eldar depictions were some cartoony-bright grotesque pictures. But I have to say I didn't fall in love with any faction in particular, I just loved the atmosphere, the scale and grandeur of this world, where there is only war. It was several years later, when I saw more pictures and maybe someone told me something, but suddenly I realised that these funny-clad guys are ELVES! Space Elves. I started to re-analyze them from this new point of view, and it was a point of no return for me)) So, these are the space elves, they wear wraithbone armor and stylized masks, and what is this - omg, these ones are elves burning stuff with flamethrowers! And these wear skull masks and bones! And those scream the **** out of their enemies.. It was a revelation to me. Then I peeked into their background and was amazed much much further. Later, when I got my eyes and hands on the more serious Eldar artwork, mainly by Jes Goodwin, and when I got to DoW and heard the voiceover for Eldar, and then delved even deeper into lore and fluff, and when I got some friends in a big GW shop and could stare at the miniatures for hours (I couldn't afford buying even one at that time) - I don't know how to say... it's become a little life of its own inside my head. Which it is even now)
I would like to add some more. It is known that the Eldar were somewhat inspired by the Tolkien's elves, and I was a huge fan of those. I mean, when I was reading The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, they seemed just intriguing, but then I read Silmarillion. It was a total reinvention of the image of elves. Suddenly, instead of fairy-like kin, known by their wisdom, songs and bow mastery, the elves stood out as the undoubtedly superior people of many gifts, blessed not only as the best singers, artisans and craftsmen, but also as the strongest warriors. Fair and noble, they at the same time were so harsh, gritty and brutal, that I was getting shivers down my spine over and over again while reading. They were fantastic bad-ass warriors, not just shooting their arrows from afar, no, they brought their blades into the very thick of battle and slayed orks and other scum in great numbers. It was even normal to kill Balrogs back then, which seems almost impossible in the times of Lord of the Rings, where there is only one of them. And one of their elven kings even fought the very Black Lord Morgoth in a duel and wounded him. Atop of that they could deceive and kill each other, and showed other controversy. And also they lived in the cities built underground inside the mountains!) And of course, their story incorporated heavy losses and eventually downfall. Man, I loved that book, can't say how many times I've read it. But I'm a sci-fi guy, I told you, so that's one of the only 2 fantasy books that I really love. My heart longs for the stars. So then the Eldar appear in my sight. And to me they embody everything that was dear to me in their back-water exodite cousins from Tolkien's Silmarillion, but only greater from all sides and superior on every level. There are no words to describe my amazement at how well the Eldar are written in the sci-fi setting, how deep and how beautiful is their lore, how well superior and alien they are. And their general visual style could not be better. It is (and probably will ever) be the best sci-fi elves for all times. By the way, the same could be said about Necrons, but before their retcon. They were the best and the greatest sci-fi undead. Now they are just meh.
Lowest Pop is something that creates a big chance for us, as underdog factions are often the ones who work best together. Seen this happen on the Different Warhammer Online Server, the side which was underdog was always better organized and had better teamwork thus winning all the smaller fights and often a handfull of players were holding off the enemy on key positions so long that we were able to assist them after winning the smaller fights. Sure there is the danger that most of the underdog player will get frustrated and leave or worse stay and bring the community down but i dont think that this will happen here because we have so much hardcore fans who are into challenges and not easy victories.
We all stand united, The Eldar Kindred will show who's the superior race of 40k. They don't know what's coming and they won't know what hit them.
Thank you so much, dark cousin, you have truly made my day with this piece. The mood and its change are set greatly, I listened to it about 10 times today and I like it very much. All the lines in DoW were great. By the way, among my favorites not present in this composition are Banshees' furious "You are inferior!!" (it echoes in my head every time when I see some extreme spehss mahreen's post) and Seer Council's contemptuous "Cut them down!", a quintessence of attitude.
I love their culture, the whole path life style and such. Also i have always been attracted to psychic powers.
