some of us still think the "veteran" class should be an class subtype unlocked through progression .... and not some "spend a penny" one time use class
The problem is that after some time playing, you will be fighting full veterans vs exarchs armies, with almost no standard cannon-fodder troops.
This. I do think there's problems with buying the elites in that if you can still earn points as an elite, that's self-sustaining as you'll probably win more as an elite than otherwise, but I definitely prefer it more than an unlock. Though the idea of being able to level your Exarch when you do play as one has merit.
depends what we mean by "veteran" I guess ... for me it would of been a slightly larger LP pool and access to certain items that are more typically found on veteran units (pretty much what the progression tree does now anyway), yes over time you would see a larger proportion of veteran troops vs non-veteran troops .... but honestly isnt that what would naturally occur on a battlefield anyway? eg: non-veteran troops would die more often then veteran troops due to a lack of experience, and those non-veteran troops that did survive longer would themselves move towards veteran status due to their survival exposing them to more and more experience as well as access to better equipment as the veterans that did die would leave equipment behind etc EDIT keep in mind that I'm seperating "veteran" from "elite/hero" in my concept ... veterans having maybe 200 more LP and acccess to maybe a single weapon type or two per class that would otherwise not be availible to non-veterans as opposed to "elite/hero" units which have limited load out possibilites, very different roles then the standard troops and very unique models compared to standard troops
I'm fine with keeping the LP pool as-is, as that means things can come down more to skill. Vets getting more types of weapon and wargear unlocks on the tree is fine, but if the LP pool gets bigger then that's a hands-down advantage I don't think experienced players need- their advantage should be from knowing the maps and developing their personal combat skills compared to newbies.
considering that "veteran" status would probably require a certain level of points spent in advancement trees and that such a level of advancement points would also probably mean having purchased the "reduced LP cost" type skills we've seen in the advancement trees .... one could say that any player achieving "veteran" would already have increased their availible LP pool by reducing the LP cost of equipment, wether the extra LP (I suggested 200) is an additional amount that raises the pool from 1000 to 1200, or it reduces the overall expense of items from 1000 to 800 is subjective
Why not let Squad leaders be Sergeants and Exarchs (Veterans) and limit the number of squads to about 4 or 5 per side with up to 5 people per squad, this means you could have up to 4 or 5 sergeants and they would lead squads like they do in the "TT and Lore", I think this would at least be good enough until most of the content is implemented and they focus on streamlining the balance, I think this would do for a temporary system and not make the sergeants that unbalanced as you will still have large amounts of cannon fodder and they would only get access to better gear and possibly more health which would seem underwhelming for something you spend currency on.
It's a little too difficult to regulate this, and it doesn't let every player be the super special snowflake they deserve to be for a limited time. I think leaving them as an "every now and then" type deal works well given that the idea of having a higher LP limit is meant to be what defines the 'Veteran' thing (hopefully they'll look cooler than normal classes too). Given that the more experienced players will be the ones with access to them that makes it a lot less horrible for new players, doesn't it?
well theres 2 problems with that ... 1) everybody would want to be a squad leader for the bling ... so youd have people leaving squads to start their own, and squad leaders already get the emblem and its buff 2) you would already have chosen your loadoutsa to take to the match before the match began and someone gets assigned as squad leader, so youd have to make your veteran load out after the match started which could take time meaning the squad leader is never there at the start of the matchs while theyre making a load out
