The reason for creating this thread is that on a multiplayer RTS, playing with friends on comms, even 3 or 4 of you on a 10 vs 10 server, is seen as pubstomping. So really, I just wanted to get a feel for peoples thoughts on here. Do you have an issue with co-ordinated players A) In general in video games? and B) In EC? To me, looking down on people just because they're playing with friends is crazy; but clearly not everyone thinks this way, so I'd like to gather a consensus.
No problem at all, if players are coordinated, then of course they will do better, its allways like that, nothing wrong with it at all. With EC, its a huge benefit, especially since this is a tactical game.
If you're going to play online games by yourself and then get annoyed that online people are buddying up with their friends online you need to play single player games. So no, I think to say that grouping up is unfair is ridiculous.
I've always been a fan of grouping up and taking stuff as a team, for me it gives more enjoyment knowing that I achieved a goal by using tactics with friends then lone wolfing.
Pretty much this. Its not really hard to make new friends on the internet, even if you are socially awkward there is a group to suit everyone.
I'm a bit split. In EC, I think it isn't really pubstomping since it's part of strategy and stuff. But in games like LoL, Smite etc. I think the game should match you against other premades, simply because the skill-to-success ratio is way cranked up. In fact I think LoL already does this. If you're 4 or 5 premade, you can only face off against other 4-5 premades.
Is there any other way to play online games? ie with friends or your guild, on voice comms.. Especially PVP centric online games... Several MMO's I've played I wouldn't stayed logged on unless I had guildies on or friends to roll with. Anymore I tend to do the same with the shooters I play. Why torture yourself and stay at a distinct disadvantage rolling solo in a PVP game. Organized team play is the only way to go IMO.
I just feel sad for all the friendless folk out there who get bitter when they see groups of friends playing together I have almost always played with a group of friends. Since like...Everquest...even before really, using (shudder) Rodger Wilco.
