For Orks it seems appropriate to have the Guild Master become the biggerst character. But for the other classes like Space Marines, Eldar and CSM, maybe they should instead be more decorative in their appearance. So things like purity seals / unholy parchments, trophies, medals, armor decals, armor decoration, unique armr designs, embossed Chapter, Legion, Craftworld iconography. Basically, if he's leading a huge army, he needs to look bad ass. Maybe the members of teh guild can offer their guild master a kind of gift to their look, like trophies, armor, weapons, boosts, etc.
I did not explain myself very well here. Much like Tornadiumn, I saw Primarch and guild leader in the same sentence and automatically wanted...well I think we all know how I usually react. Anyway. Leader's being able to have more elaborate (as far as visual, not stats) armor, something to denote their significance to the enemy, much like the TT game or the fluff does, would not be all bad. However, that should apply to all leaders (I agree with your SL and above statement) not just ones that happen to be associated with a Strike Force. But being larger, just to accomplish that is not very appealing imo. I believe that our toons should be able to vary their size somewhat for customization but the only race that height/size would make sense to denote leaders is, as mentioned, Orcs.
I say let decorations reflect real accomplishments and achievements within the game. If the leader is chosen from such decorated officer ranks, he's already got the looks. And this way it's more logical: apparel reflecting his achievements as a warrior first, who just happen to be chosen as a leader of the chapter for his proficiency. Additional halo, a banner or a laurel wreath maybe, but nothing too flashy. I always felt that within Space Marines, for example officers were being cool long before becoming leaders. Nothing regal about it. Selfindulgence for pride is not a trait
As a former guild master on GW1 and 2. I resnt that the status is not visible. So I would like the equivalent of a "guild master" to have some visual if not actual bonus link to the status of the guild. Why? Because being a guild master is time consuming and is an achievement by itself if the guild is successfull, far more actually than most in game grinding achievement. Though I agree that size is not fun, I think that the guild system could allow to buy distinction for the Guild master or that according to the size.success rating of the guild the Guild master will have distinction (size increase for Orks?). The question is still-born, irrelevant to discuss, all of us should be equal. Although if we really want to see someone is ' bigger ' than us, then the lore characters should take this role, nothing more.
The fact that you mention an actual bonus disallows me to agree with you. The fact that you state putting together a player association is some sort of achievement, further solidifies my belief that guild leaders deserve no more consideration than any other player, OUTSIDE their player association. People like you, enjoy gaming with you, or other people in your PA. That is all a successful PA is. A group of like minded people going with the flow they like. No big deal. You aren't curing cancer, feeding the homeless, etc. You are a group of people that come together to play a game, and you are no better than anyone else that wants to play said game, therefore you do not rate anything more than they do. *drops the mic*
That is a tendancy today to find that a TS server or a forum is a given fact for a guild. But it is not. Creating and managing a site is a time consumming task. Finding or having a server is not easy or free either. And managing a big group of player successfully is feat of will. Though I love that, it is a taxing activity. If you take care of the administration you end up not playing, that is not farming and there are always a guy to find that you have not enough gear. So yes, I believe that a successfull guild leaser should have an in game reward (if the guild is really successfull). Best regards, Skanvak Drakken de la Maison des Drakkens
