  1. Three new articles on the GamerGate situation.

The Gender Games: Sex, Lies, and Videogames -- It details some of the important points and talks about some of the hate and dirty tactics coming from the SJW and their allies.

Please Stop Erasing Us: Your Feminism or the Highway -- An article from a feminist who explores what happens when you dare think for yourself. Nothing generates more frothing madness than when a member of a group that is crying about how it's being oppressed steps out of line. Independent thought is the enemy of groupthink and it must be punished.

D For Disingenous -- Another article from a feminist that doesn't act like a sheep. She takes down the attacks on GamerGate movement and #notyourshield pretty succinctly.

There is always a bit of truth in every suspicion.
  3. One of the more prominent SJW was threatened with violence by some anonymous loser. This guy said he was going to carry out a mass shooting if she went ahead with her presentation. The threat should be taken seriously (like all threats should) but she cancelled her presentation because law abiding citizens who conceal carry would not be disarmed before entering the venue.

First, I understand if she is worried. Colleges are notorious for having issues with speech, and more than one speaker has been attacked (usually by leftist and usually there is no serious injury). One way colleges keep speakers they don't like from speaking is to charge the group sponsoring the speaker with extra fees. Speakers handle these situations in different ways, and it is fine if she felt it was best not to speak.

However, saying people that conceal carry is the reason you are scared is curious. People that conceal carry are some of the most law abiding folk out there. In addition, they are often the reason there aren't MORE mass shootings. Psychos love gun-free zones because it gives them all the power. It is a totally reasonable assumption that having concealed carry people in the audience would make her much safer. Unfortunately, too many people listen to anti-gun hysteria and end up acting foolishly.

Unfortunately, the end result is some idiot shut her up, when she should have been free to speak without legitimately feeling scared about it. In addition, it gave her position more publicity and (of course) this loser is being used to tarnish the GamerGate community. Obviously, being anonymous, no one knows anything about him He could be a SJW looking for publicity (not uncommon), it could just be some sick crackhead, or it could actually be someone associated with GamerGate. Hopefully they catch the guy, but at this point no one knows.

SJW and their other totalitarian allies should be defeated with freedom and ideas. Threats of violence plays into their hands. They are the ones trying to control everyone. When we allow the losers amongst us to stoop to their level we let them win.

Literally every time I see SJW in one of your posts I stop reading.

EDIT: Since the Kotaku/Zoe Quinn thing has been debunked, and since I was tired of looking at the title, I've edited this thread to be about a discussion of #GamerGate, or #StopGamerGate. or whatever. New threads on the subject will be merged with this one or deleted. Have a nice day everyone.

EDIT: I perused the thread, and deleted a bunch of posts I thought were disgusting, specifically ones related to Zoe Quinn and her sex life. Anyone who felt the need to comment on someone's physical appearance, sex life/personal life, or standards had no right to do so in the confines of this discussion, and should be ashamed of themselves. If it happens again there will be consequences.
  5. I saw SJW so I stopped reading. ;)
  6. Here is another articles on the Anita Sarkeesian situation I mentioned above. It's from the Volokh Conspiracy, a blog written by prominent lawyers, but more important it is often thoughtful and not hyper partisan like a lot of stuff out there.

  7. It may be true that many gamers have taken up abusive tones and purvey opinions of disdainful ignorance, but last time I checked thats, whats it called, the entire godsdamned internet. People feel empowered by the anonymity provided by the virtual world, and therefore feel safe expressing themselves in a vulgar way meant to stir up anger and otherwise cause distress. Lumping all gamers into this category to cover up criticism of favoritism in reporting and artificially bolstering reviews as a personal favor, and then telling them that they are a dying culture of misogynists and racists because of the demographic preferences of a huge chunk of gaming is, well, dickbaggery.

You want to use gaming to further your ideals? Fine, make a game worth a damn and don't make a stink if people don't actually like it. Want to enforce your political views on a huge and diverse subculture under the guise of "social justice," Stuff off.

That said, the trolls that give any measure of credence to these complaints are actually the same people that gamers hate (you all have run into that guy spamming Teamspeak calling everyone a faggot) but we can't force them out, nor can we stop them from going to open social media sites and expressing their dickheaded views. As professionals, grouping your entire audience in the same category as rampant trolls is both idiotic and just as worthy of contempt as the trolls themselves.

I really haven't kept up with all this stuff at all. I know some out spoken feminists got involved and that's usually where I stop following. The ones that get the most attention are sometimes the ones who feed the bad image feminism still has in the eyes of many people. It's rarely any kind of feminist critique in the sense that there's some scholarship and good analysis. It's usually a lot of conjecture and stuff that could be phrased a little better. Gender issues aren't always easy to discuss with people who don't have an interest in it, especially when the speaker is very zealous. I say this mostly because of what I've seen in parts of this thread. There's been a lot of generalization of gamers but there's also been generalizations thrown around in here like "radical feminists", "white knights", and "SJW". All have a grain of truth (I don't think "radical feminist" means what many people think it does) but we need to remember that these stereotypes often come from the loudest, and often most negative, group.

I don't feel like giving myself a brain bleed by reading everything that has gone down over this. I just wanted to remind everyone that there's a ton of stuff that does analyze gaming culture, and video games as a whole, but with a more scholarly tone. I mentioned that I usually drop out when some of the louder feminist come in but I'd like to add to that by saying that I consider myself to be a feminist. I dabble in gender studies on occasion. What those two subjects are portrayed as is often very different from the actual fields of study. Not to mention that fact that feminism is a gigantic area. Ridiculously diverse. I recommend everyone to read up on some of these things so they can make informed decisions about the people they're hearing about.

  9. I go through a lot of effort to get informed, and while I don't take women studies classes I spend a lot of time on feminist/leftist blogs/websites/etc. I feel it's important to understand both sides of an issue before making decisions.

I consider myself a feminist because I believe men and women should both be treated equally. Despite this, I am sure I would not be considered a feminist by many on the left. Much of what passes for feminism these days has little to do with equality, which is why so many people do not classify themselves as "feminist." I agree that feminism is widely diverse, and this may add to why people don't identify as feminist. The people who call themselves feminist and get the most attention are typically those most toxic to a large part of the population. In many ways the word has been lost its meaning (like so many words lately).

I use the term SJW in an effort to be more specific. It identifies a group that seeks to control others in an effort to enforce their vision of "social justice". They typically oppose anything that doesn't conform to their view of "social justice." They feel so righteous that anyone that disagrees with them MUST be misogynistic, racist, homophobic and whatever other label is popular at the time.

SJW are often opposed by people who feel the world is big enough and diverse enough to accommodate everyone. The idea that one worldview should be forced down everyone's throats is anathema to these people. Freedom is the ultimate social justice and allows everyone to follow their own path, whatever that may be.

Real quick synopsis of my view, that could certainly be articulated better if I had more time!

This is the main issue for me, one day I woke up and I discover that I'm misogynist, racist and opressive person just because I'm a white male and I enjoy video games, and the only way to be saved is to blindly agree with them, no free thinking or middle ground allowed... well fuck that and fuck all their labels, I was one of the many that didn't care for all the drama and I felt dragged into it with all that generalization...

BTW I've seen way to much drama involving the feminist lobby on my country and of course it just turned into a black hole sucking contributors money, I think is also the focus here, with some "feminist activist" that doesn't give a shit about games giving speeches (pretty sure she doesn't give them for free ;)) on big companies and companies having their public image damaged when they argue against those "activist"... fuck I really find value to the word activist, calling this people that way seems wrong to me :s
