Nathan came from CCP (the devs of EVE:Online) right? Then if he's half as good as one of his fellow CCP Devs, a dev who went by the name of CCP Rattati of the Dust514 forums, then I think EC will turn out fine.
Yeah, uh, I don't think many people doubt the devs' actual capabilities in making a good game. What they doubt is that the Internet gaming community, specifically the game review and Let's Play portions, will be able to treat the game at launch as an in-progress Alpha test version instead of a release version. And they fear, because historically this has been accurate in pretty much every single case since the Internet became hugely popular for gaming, that a game that's not ready for launch, that is launched, will be received extraordinarily poorly. And that that poor reception will turn people off from playing or, in a lot of cases, even giving the game a fair chance. Nothing to do with what the devs can actually do. Entirely to do with how prospective players will view the game at launch.
im not really sure what to think. I mean,as ive said before, i dont doubt the competence of the Naitun, i do actually doubt the competence of the team as a whole a bit. Last twitch they showed off Space wolves and Iron hands, right? (and space elves, but whatever) So correct me if im wrong but I saw the exact same SM models except one had a spacewolves skin and the other a iron warrior one. Now the voices were different, but the animations looked exactly the same. The space wolve wore a helmet, so no facial features etc. So why exactly did that take so long? Am I missing some knowledge about the intricacy here or is it jsut fucking slow? They sure seemed (note how i use SEEMED, as in, the impression it makes on me as a member of this playerbase) to take their sweet time only to come up with a new skin. It would not surprise me if the initial designs of space wolves got fucked up in some manner and they quickl;y resorted to this version just to be able to deliver it, and hope we wouldnt notice and assumed they always were supposed to look like this. It's like the direction of this game progresses with one foot on the gaspedal and the other on the break. The decisionmaking progress of this game has not made any sense whatsoever.
I've noticed more lately that its more of a trend for gamers to re-consider games as they improve, and I think it more common that they will consider ongoing games after so long or expansion. One thing I think this game should consider doing is some type of incentive to bring players back to check up on it, similar to how Warframe has a daily login reward that accumulates. Not that they have lots to reward logins, but some type of incentive that will encourage peeps to keep popping in. Actually they could do a daily login reward for RTP or weekly ext, so in x amount of time they could buy an accessory. I normally fully agree with this, but in games that don't have crazy AAA funding they have to be able to pull in a crowd strong enough to pay for it and then continue along hopefully only getting better. I think this game is already on that path and it is more than playable in it's current for two and a half factions, and assuming the big patch coming shortly with lots of content is good, they should be is an alright place to push forward.
Not only would daily check up incentives be a boost for the Launch population, but there was a suggestion to keep the Alpha state disclaimer on the log in screen of the game. If possible for the devs to keep this, I would urge them to advertise in as many ways as possible that they're just getting started on this game still and what they sold was the core combat aspect of the game and rest of the wheel and spokes that drive EC are being laid down on the road so they can neatly roll it over them with patches, finish the wheel, and drive eternal, shiney and chrome. Witness.
I can agree with this though a big factor is seeing what the details were and what they were focusing on. If this massive content patch coming is accurate, then we know they have been very hard at work just not telling us they were focusing on it. Ultimately to me, the added factions should be at the bottom of the priority list, as they aren't so important compared to the many many other things. Heck they really could have just used the same models and applied the texture / colors they had on hand until they get the core mechanics / itemization out of the way that they can then reskin them properly, but at least peeps would have their faction. Side note to that, at least peeps get something different with the chapters, where us Eldar get a colored sash instead of alternative customized looks and craftworld colors. I'm a bit salty about that lol, though I would rather have more game mechanics implemented first anyway.
It's quite different from No Man's Sky. Both games are similar in that they promised a lot and couldn't deliver. But the difference is that EC devs recognized that they couldn't deliver, and decided to scale things down and make a solid game, while NMS devs decided to go with it.
I think the game will do okay, but needless to say, as someone who has been around since the game was very first announced I am disappointed.
I can see it making progress slowly and that's fine by me. I'm okay with the game being spacemarine with more people since I enjoyed space marine. I would like it to be 40k planetside but I'm willing to play spacemarine 2.0 until the time when it can be bigger. Still want a global chat toggle though, that alone made me lose more faith than anything else the devs have done.
warframe had an awfull f2p system. Random Number Generator (RNG) Stuff Walled behined RNG walled behind RNG .... Every weapon that camed out was overpowerd. After a few weeks it was nerfed to hell. So you bought the new overpowerd ..... And with the mod packs and resource buyable, and the xp boost and the other boosts THATS PAY 2 WIN (in my opinon, you may disagree with that but that does not change MY opinion ). And then they added flying around levels to force you starting from stretch (needed other mods/weapons) And did I mentioned the special traders with offers only aviable for short time and special curency? And void keys? (buyable too ^^) And resources that disapear after a time for much more grinding ? And ....... Played it 1000+ hours. But after the RAID release I stopped it. Why I played : fast space ninjas with mass destruction with random generated levels and coop pve
