Moving this idea over to General from Ork Infighting in Founders Lounge as it affects F2W players.
TL;WR: Free trial default B2P stuff for fistin' your greenskin neighbour once every day!

+ There is kindof confirmed to be some kind of arena/duel system.
    (See Tarl68's post below, #4)
+ Orks love fighting, even with other Orks. Fluff reasons.
+ A daily reward system is incentive to come back and play again.
+ F2W Trial access to B2P stuff is incentive to buy more of full EC.

    Combined:
What if this daily reward for F2W players is implemented as duels where the prize is trial access to default B2P stuff?
For the F2W players: Think of it as a taste of not only what the game offers in terms of play, but also the benefits of being DA BIGGEST ORK.

This daily duel reward should not have any major influence on the battles out there.
Perhaps ~5 minutes duels, best of 3 wins. With the daily cooldown and so on, the remaining hours of EC is out in the fields.

    If it is implemented then:
    - The trial is a taste of not only what the game offers in terms of play, but also the benefits of being DA BIGGEST ORK. This is incentive for more F2W players to actually buy the game.

    - The reward is earned as an inventory item, and the player chooses when to activate the trial.

    - The rewards needs to decay after some time and/or have a limit of "max 5 trial items in inventory at once", else scenarios like PS2 Max-crashes will happen.

    - There needs to be a cooldown (daily) until one can earn the rewards again. Else there can be abuse where players farms eachother for unlimited trial B2P stuff. F2W players can only earn one trial reward each (day). The rest of the time the duels are for the sake of duels. No daily extra reward then.

    - The trial itself needs a limit. If this is a set period of time, (Respawn as a default Nob for X minutes/hours.) or an amount (Respawn as a Nob X amount of times.) is up to devs, balance and opinion. Rewarded Vehicles most likely as single-spawns.

    - Another limit: F2W players should not be able to access the stuff that requires XP for a B2P player to unlock. No veteran classes, custom tanks or special upgrades etc. Default loadouts only. As in the sketch: Top tier heroes (Warboss) and XP-earned (MegaNobz) will not be available as rewards.

    - There does not have to be a limit on what stuff is available for trial as long as within the restriction above. Perhaps a Buggy, Mekboy with Speshul Deffgun, MOAR DAKKA or a Stormnob?

-A system similar to the "free-characters-of-the-week" in LoL could be used here. (Reward for win of today's duel: Buggy. Tomorrow: Stormnob.) Incentive for players to come back and play. "Next time Iz gunna show em gits woos boss!"

    - Greater risk, greater rewards. Expanding on the ideas of duels above: Weekly Tournaments.
If a 1 vs. 1 duel is worth a little Nob-time, a (16) Boyz tournament may have a single-spawn "Looted Tank" as prize.
Again, this is once a week and therefore ~20 min in arena compared to the remaining playtime is not really an issue.

    - The influx of 1/(16) players receiving a tank every week should not affect faction balance, neither the War Councils' ability to drop tanks on hotspots to get people rallying. In fact, a little ping from WC telling there's a large battle over there might make more players actually use their trials to join the bigger battle as a bigger ork.

    - For ordinary duels: globally only 50% of the F2W players will be able to gain the reward. That's just how skill works.
((There might be rewards even for losing, else the "daily reward" is lost for the less skilled players. An example of this could be that the winning player gets 20 min of Nob-time respawn, while the loser gets a single spawn as Nob.))

    - Duels need to be random opponents else players can make/rig the deal. Eg. players join the queue for daily duel (Has to be at the arena?) and will face another randomly selected Ork Boy in queue.
//Sure, you could always have premade dealers swarm the lobby to mess up the rng, but it's still better than chosen opponents where rigging could potentially be an issue.

That sums up all the ideas and potential issues found earlier. Plenty of text, less actual work to make it happen.

//This is not to say that the B2P can't have their daily rewards in forms of duels, be it in faction or between factions.
//About the B2P rewards then, the F2W xp-locked classes are obviously unlocked, as well as the trials are obsolete.
//Cosmetic stuff, Xp, Single spawn Vehicles for duels, and Rare Cosmetic stuff, more xp and Heavy Vehicles as reward examples for arena.

    Summary:
This is incentive for more F2W players to actually buy the game. Devs happy!
Free trial default B2P stuff for fistin' your greenskin neighbour once every day! F2W players happy!
    Win-win!

Would you like to see this in game?
    Why/why not?

    TL;DR:
Free trial default B2P stuff for fistin' your greenskin neighbour once every day!
    Matsukovich and Nomad like this.
  2. Nomad Darmadeus Nomad Arch-Cardinal

Liking the idea. It gives F2W players an incentive to play the game more.

    P.S. Did you draw that?
  3. Might need a bit more simplifacation, so you know, servers and stuff, also so that ork players can get right into it.

    hardly confirmed

    the dev said

"Yes. There may be dueling spots, but we will see what works"

and that was back in twitch #7 august 2014 and even then we have a ...

    "yes" - confirmation
"there may be" - only a possibility
"we will see" - only a possibility

all in all, hardly an ironclad confirmation
  5. They mentioned something about different War Council positions not having to be decided by a vote. Would be great if Ork players could vote for WC members, and the candidates selected get to fight it out for a seat, with the winner getting to be the big boss. The whole thing could be done in a fighting pit on the Ork home island, and broadcast live to all Orkdom (via twitch of course).

the only problem with that suggestion is time-zones ... what happens when 2 people who are voted for cant duel because they have completely different gaming windows?

or more boringly, when someone cant make it due to real life getting in the way
  7. Den dayz iznt a propa Ork!!!

But yeah, no way around it. Oh well.
  8. 㐃_Miirk Miirk Xenotechnologist

Kind of. Its mostly Screenshots from Dow II which I've tried to sketch a copy off. :)

Not sure if I read you right. What do you mean here?

For the server - I guess the easiest way to go about it is to make the arena instantiated like the 'Nid caves.

    Right into it:
There is this queston of what happens to players when they disconnect/despawn. I assumed they would be moved to their faction's safe haven, and that from there they could enter a duel/arena lobby/queue. Having a shiny big "Daily Duel" button in menu which teleports (not in battle tp-restrictions etc.) the player to the arena should make people find it.

True. I'm assuming there will be, but for now we do not have a clear yes/no.

Sure, I don't see why not a few seats of the WC could be for those who win larger tournaments.
The Orky ways of Trial by Battle!

    ---------

    On arena in general:
I was inspired by the event system in Warframe when writing this. Though a different genre, it's an example of how to attract players and make them stay.

EC: Of course, get the game ready for launch first, but then arenas and events is a great way to add more meta with comparably small effort.
